2000 - 18.5 gallons. I never put it more then 16.5 gallons. I think you have about 3 gallons left when the light comes on. 250 / 15 = ~16.7 mpg. Yea, that's not too good. Try them injector cleaners, new fuel filter, air filter. might help

My wife has the same basic drive and still gets 300 miles easily per tank in the city...
I'd thought you guys get more mpg, but my 92 max gets the same mpg city/hwy as you guys do, 330-350 city and close to 400 hwy.
But I would trade that for any of your guys' cars, ANY.
any takers/offers?

NO NO NO you dont, not unless you drive 20 mph dude. I dont mean to geat you mad or anything but I drive mostly city and get between 260-270 a tank. With some weekend driving on the interstate I can go 320 or so. Dont pull my leg man, unless your calculator is wrong or youre not figuring it correctly those figures are not correct.

Well divide this and tell me what the math is...
515.7 / 16.62 = 31.02 MPG
That's what I got on the very first road trip I took with my car (it was all of 2 days old when I made the trip). I set the cruise for 10 over the entire way from Georgia to Kansas. That was my first tank of gas...

Heres what I gathered on the last few fillups:
90% of the driving was the same on all fillups
and most of that was done at or below 50 MPH
And all on 92 octane gas.
Ran a tank of gas with 2 bottles of Techron down to
about 1/8 of tank left, but no low fuel light?
Results per computer 288 miles driven, DTE: 54, MPG: 22.3
Took 14.3 gallons to fill= 20.14 MPG.
Second fillup: 243.3 miles on 13.221 gallons
DTE :67, MPG 22.2, actual 18.4 MPG.
Third fillup 272 miles on 13.3 gallons
DTE:66 MPG 23.3, actual MPG: 20.45
First of all, when does the light come on?
Second if we truely have 18.5 gallon tank and computer says DTE is say 67 at 22.2 MPG,with 13.22 gallon fillup, 67 divided by 22.2 = 3.01 add that to the 13.2 it took to fill and you get only 16.2.
So either we got a smaller than 18.5 gallon tank
or there is about a 2 gallon reserve left in the tank .

I drive a good combinaton of both city and highway. My last tank, which it has been about the same since I bought the car, I got 273.00 miles to the tank. I only drive until the quarter mark, which is 13.271 gallons by the Mobil pump. there for I get 20.57 mpg.

Do not use the car's trip computers to calculate any part of your mileage. They are so far off that it's not even funny. You have to do it the old fashioned way (by hand, using what we know to be facts).
Your tank in a 5th Gen holds 18.5 gallons. That is a fact. The gas light comes on when there is approximately 3-3.5 gallons of gas left in the tank. That is an approximation that we use as fact. Now, the trip computer that actually just keeps overall driven mileage/tank is the one thing that you will use (fact). Take that, divide it by the number of gallons you fill with each and every time you fill, and that is your approximate mileage. DTE is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy off, just like the fuel mileage calculator in our cars. You can not use it for any factoring. Just keep it simple (distance driven on tank divided by number of gallons at fill up equals approximate MPG of that particular tank of gas...)
I know you all know this already, but I'm just putting it down for the hell of it anyways...
Well, my gas gauge doesn't work, for some reason it says I'm full all the time, so I go by the miles. At 300 miles I'll go and fill it up. I'm sure I can go another 25-50 miles but since I do HWY and CITY driving, your just never sure.
DTE is hardly accurate, I drove about 75-80 miles with it blinking --, You know it blinks that when it thinks you are out of gas. So I wouldnt go by that.
And yes me and my wife are both performance oriented drivers and neither one of us baby the MAX.. I know I could get better milage but considering the driving we do and our habits with the car I am satisfied w/18 or so mpg for mainly city driving. Also I must add that winter gas down here in the south SUCKS. Our milage sometimes went as low as 14 mpg.

How are you getting around 250 on a tank?!?! Slamming the gas pedal down to the floor every time is hardly necessary... and neither is getting to the speed limit as fast as possible... ease up (we all know the car is fairly fast, no need to re-assure yourself every time you star to move), you'll end up with a fatter wallet. At one point, I believe I was able to add the DTE and odometer reading and get 500+.

miles travelled on a tank have nothing to do with actual MPG. One can drive his car all the way till his tank is almost empty and say, hey, i'm getting 300 miles a tank, while another can drive it only until the gas light comes up and read it that way. So to be more accurate, use MPG. also, heavier wheels, driving style, temperature, mods and bunch of other stuff can affect your gas milage.

Congratulations...you just stated what we had already established earlier in this thread. It is sound advice, however...
Miles driven on that particular tank divided by number of gallons you filled up with after driving said tank...that's thte ONLY way to do it.
