How to open up a 5th Gen taillight

I have one 2k2+ taillight sitting around my house that I'd like to mess around with. But i've read more than once that trying to get the tails open just results in breaking them. On the other hand i've seen a few opened to do custom LED work, or just to paint them. So does anyone have a suggestion on how to get them open, or is it a lost cause? Oven heat them, cut, just use force?? Thanks!

I say either smoke the whole thing in the color of your car and see if you like it, or paint it white around the lenses to match a glacier pearl car, follow the same method used to get the 00 01 se look only with white paint instead of black.

exactly; not clean. I wasn't going to Dremel my tail lights. I have bad luck w/ Dremel. I only use Dremel in my bathroom between titles to clean out all them nasty build up.

I know the 4th gen guys put their tails in the oven at 200 degrees for like 10 mintues and they can gently pry them apart once the glue is softened. Not sure if the same applies for 5th gens, but someone may wanna try...
