why are rims so pricey?

hey fellas, might sound like a dumb question, but i've noticed that rims are bumped up about $500 from 17" to 18". does it cost THAT much more to manufacture that extra inch, or is it a supply/demand kind of thing? i really would like some 18" ADR verion 2 rims, but they are very pricey for a highschooler and i want to get a nice system but i drop 1500 on rims. just lookin for answers

He's asking why there is a big price difference between 17"s and 18"s......

The real answer is because they know people will pay more for larger wheels.
