Looking at buying an I30

Hey guys, I recently found a 98 I30T 5speed for sale and I know how rare those are. Im thinking very seriously about buying it. It has about 88k miles on it but looks to be in great condition, just minor wear here and there. However, Im no expert on I30s so I was wondering, what kinds of things do I need to look for that could potentially be wrong with it? Also, how much do I30's weigh? Are they a lot more than Maximas or are they pretty comparable, being essentially the same car and all. Also, my SHO does a 14.8 in the 1/4 mile as it sits. I figure the stock I30 5speed should be able to run a really low 15 stock right? Thanks for any help you can give me!

I would grab that car while you can. A 98 5psd is very rare! Most 5spd's are 96 or 97's and those are even very hard to find. Then you can join our cool 5spd I30 club

Look for any tranny fluid leaking from the driver or passanger differential seals and ask if they have been replaced at all. Other than that is just mainly o2 sensors, knock sensors, wheel bearings....little stuff like that that go bad.

The I30 hardly weighs any more than a maxima. I weighed in at 3130 with me in the car and I weigh 170lbs. At the track a 14 sec time slip is entirely possible with a 5spd, not probable but possible. Low 15's for sure if you can get a 2.1X or low 2.2x 60'. But for less than $200 a y-pipe will put you in the 14's for sure.

dang. Ok looks like its time to sell the SHO haha. You think that the 98 has a VLSD in it? That would rule cause Im really tired of one-tire fires

yes it should have VSLD, but to make sure check the tranny code. It's stamped a metal plate under the hood. It's on the passanger side firewall. It will start with an R and either end in an A or a V. If it ends in a V then it has limited slip.
