you need just the gaskets for now. if you have a stock y-pipe on there already, it is a straight bolt-on. now the cat-converter is something different. if you plan on changing that, make sure you get bolts. the stock one don't work. i found out the hard way yesterday. i am going to call WSP myself and ask them what size bolts are they.

the cat bolts from the factory are 10mm bolts, but you can go to a hardware store and pick up 3/8" stuff for cheapola.. they'll need to be 1.5-2" long or so, just cause there's a lot of junk to smash together. grab a few washers too.

If you're keeping the factory cat and snap the studs, then you'll need to get a GOOD 3/8" drill bit.. cobalt or better- they're only a couple bucks more than the cheap crap, about $3.50-$4 for a good one... they'll drill through the steel like buttah, then just don't both with new studs- run a bolt through it and be done.

make it ez on yourself...

take out the y-pipe and cat together and then take it to a bench and crank off the front bolts.
(i'm assuming you have a different exhaust already)

should i really use an impact? lol

-the cat is still on there and my exhaust is still in the making.. im going to mount it all at once..

- stock cat. so just nuts and bolts basicly.. and and if the stock bolts break then dill them out and put some bolts though...

-sounds ez enough .. now lets see how many ways i can ef this project up.

oh yeah what size are the gaskets that are used... anyone know? cuz i wana get all that stuff before i start and arent they 2 diferent sizes.. ones like a 3 point bolt pattern and the other is just 2, i saw some mr. gasket 3 point exhaust gaskets in a 99cent bin at auto zone.. i can use them if there right size right?

your best bet on the gaskets is to go to NAPA and just pick up brand new ones. They are actually O-rings for the two header flanges (front and rear) and a regular gasket between the y-pipe and the cat. All of them cost like $7 from NAPA and then you won't have to worry about using the old ones and developing a leak in a few months or anything.

They have all of the gaskets in the computer at NAPA and it was pretty easy to figure out.

As for the bolts, do yourself a big favor and pick up some PB Blaster or Break Free or something like that. Leave it on the bolts for a while and then use an impact gun if you have one. My bolts were kind of sticky, but weren't impossible.

Really, doing a y-pipe is pretty straight forward, you just have to have a little patience with the bolts and stuff.

Yes. Napa has them. VG and VE ones are the same. Napa won't show the VE ones. But this is one time where Napa is more expensive than a discount dealer. Napa was about $4.xx each. Dealer was cheaper if you know which discount ones to use. ie.. ones listed in the faqs.

They have them in the computer as the right ones.

If you look on my cardomain, I have some photos of my y-pipe install.

oh, didn't think about the dealer. Thanks for adding that, Jeff. My local dealer is a joke and the next nearest one is about 80 miles away. Anything else, I think the shipping would negate the $3 savings, so I just went to NAPA...

warpspeed uses 7/16" fine thread bolts that are 1.5" long, along with a 2.5" gasket. i ordered the gaskets and bolts from warpspeed today. it only costed $13 shipped. if you think about you are going to spend that much at a local dealer, why not call up dallas (warpspeed) and get the ones that they use?

If you are in a rush, you can go to any Nissan dealership or big parts store (Autozone, PepBoys, Schucks) and tell them what kind of car you have and that you need both o-ring gaskets for the headers/y-pipe (some of those idiots don't know what a y-pipe is, so just say headers) and a cat gasket and I am sure you will be fine. They are two metal rings the same size and the slot they fit into on the y-pipe and a regular gasket for the cat.

I am not sure on the bolts. Mine were fine and I reused them.

correct crush ring
wrong paper/fiber gasket

the fiber/paper gasket is 2 bolt holes.

head down to your local pepboys, autobarn, and they will have the right listing. the gasket in from and rear of the cat is the same.

also head down to your pepboys and look in the hardware bin...get some black oxide automotive grade hardware. the ones u have "looks" to be a wee bit too long...since it's only 1/2 threaded you might end up using a lot of washers. 35 to 40mm should do it.

maybe.. but i was using an impact gun... ill check that **** tomorrow that install took me about 2 hours.. the bolts came off with no problem at all, all the bolts are still in good condition still shinny metal inside and below a little rust

- what did that Y pipe to CAt gasket look like?... i saw remnants of the stock gasket and it was all orange.. mine was black and it had a little silver ring on the inside of it.... it seems like that thing is leaking for some reason..

it is shaped just like the flange with holes for the bolts and exhaust.

FYI,

here are some pics of the gaskets and bolts that Warpspeed will send you for a Hi-flow converter. definately worth it.

notice on the gasket how it is double up around the hole?

notice the silver ring around the hole?

quality!

have a nice day.

Did you coat the gasket with high-temperature liquid gasket? It's a copper goop that you coat the gasket with to ensure a proper seal. I wouldn't recommend putting the gaskets on 'dry' because the exhaust movement could cause a leak.
