help 60k maintence question

My max is running not so smooth. (2000 GXE, 62k miles, auto)

The Tranny seems to get stuck and catch when I really punch it. The gas mileage has dropped some, even with premium.

I haven't gotten it tuned up since 40k.

What can I do to improve all that?

The Nissan Guy said the 60k tune-up at $379.00 would be my best bet. Anybody have idea what they do for this tune-up and what else I could do to get my car running like new again?

Thanks! (I'm scheduled to take it in to Nissan next week.)

you might want to ask them what they do... And when they tell you, make sure they don't fool you into fuel filter... the fuel filter is in the gas tank.. They might also do spark plugs... but our platinum plugs are supposed to be good for 100k miles... I don't really know. I've never serviced my car... been doing it myself... they might also do oil change, air filter, coolant... don't know. Look in owner manual or best ask the dealer.

Honestly i dont think it does that much. Only thing i see worthy of doing is the tranny flush and replacing fuel filter. I dont even know if they really replace it...its apparently time consuming, and my car had this service done in like 45 minutes. They dont even replace your plugs because they "say" they last till 105,000 miles, which is bs, cuz they would be really dirty by then. They also charge you $15 A PLUG IF u want them done.

what i would do is get the new fuel filter, replace ur tranny fluid, check out the tsb's, and also buy a can of BG44K to do a fuel system flush and maybe get them to check your ignition timing.

Also i would take apart the airbox and the thingie box that connects to the throttle body, and do and throttle body clean. Trust me, you'll have a lotta stuff gunked up in there.

Yeah it might be a TSB problem. It seems to slip and rev high. It's an automatic, but when I really punch it, the revs go almost up to 6/7 and it whines sort of before shifting HARD into gear.

Thanks for the great copy of your maintence thing. I will print that out and take it to the dealer so they don't give me any BS. I'm really afraid they'll take advantage of me and overcharge me for crap I don't need.

But getting my Trans tuned up is what I'm really worried about.

Do you think they'll clean out my throtlle body and get all that gunk out?

you can do it yourself, its not difficult at all. Just buy some STP or similar at your local auto store, and just take out a few bolts/ screws that hold the airbox in, remove it, and just used a clean rag and wipe the inside of the throttle body/ butterfly plate etc.

you can find a write up here www.motorvate.ca
