Optima battery showing weakness, less than year old

this has been happening for a few weeks. I am normally entertained with a movie in my car or just listening to music with friends with car off and running off battery. I have optima yellow top battery and when i first got it i never had any issues but recently, battery almost dies for no reason. If i'm watching a movie, after some time, the movie mutes itself and i know my battery is almost dead so i start car and it acts as if it has to use the last juice available to start car. Same with music, and this is after like 20-40 minutes of watching or listening.

I've heard tons of stories of people keeping movies or music playing at shows or meets and no issues of dead battery. Mine is less than a year old, purchased from local autozone. I know i have warranty but just wondering if u guys know what could be the issue. Only thing i can think of is alternator but that was replaced with the recall less than 50k miles ago.

BTW, this has been happening weeks before i got the SC.

Was your yellow top brand new or reconditioned? Either way it should be fully warrantied so I would take it back for a new one...though you may need to have the original receipt however....depends on the place you got it from.

in my first post i said i had it for less than 8 months. And i bought mine brand new from autozone. I'm gonna take it back but i just wanted to know if it was my battery acting up or if i had some other issue hurting power to my car. I have been watching movies like that for a good 8 months on and off.

You might need to run an auxillary battery if you are using that much juice. It could be that you alternator isn't supplying your car with enough push to charge the battery for the off hours. How many watts would you say that your system is pushing max.

You're probably going to have to do what I did, upgrade to a high powered alternator. You can add all of the batteries you want but if your alternator can charge them to capacity, you will never get the performance you want. When your running your system off your battery the way you do, you wear the battery down (of course). But, chances are that your current alternator is not charging that battery to capacity if you don't leave the car running longer than 15 minutes.

when you take it back to autozone for a checkup or replacement, don't tell them you play movies for hours and junk like that.

You may also want to check the charging VOLTAGE when your car is cruising... s/b about 14.4 or slightly higher... or at least use a multimeter to check it parked with lights and electrical on at about 2K rpm.
