Ticking/Clicking noise when car's off

Hi, I have a problem with my 1989 Maxima SE. Whenever I cut the car off after I've been driving around, it makes a ticking/clicking noise for awhile. Anyone know what this is, and how I can fix it? I've noticed a few car's in parking lots parked exactly like mine, with the same problem. Thanks!

It's the exhaust cooling off. The metal contracts and causes the ticking sound. Perfectly normal for all cars.

Yeah dude it's just everything cooling off. Other cars do it too, you might not hear it a lot from other cars either because they've been sitting for a while and already cooled off, or they weren't driving around that long so their engines didn't get that hot.

How is it annoying? When you turn your car off it usually means you are at home or have reached your destination, meaning you get out of the car and walk away! No reason to stand by and listen to the ticking concert, heh

EDIT -

I think you contradicted yourself:

Mine does it too. My front exhaust manifold does it the most and I'm told that it is normal. I think the sound that you are talking about sounds like someone dropping a ball bearing on a pizza pan or a tin pan. As long as it runs fine I wouldn't worry about it.
