Can I replace the factory amp with a Alpine 4 ch amp and make it work?

Ok, so here is the problem:

i have a 2002 max, and it has one big amp that powers all the speakers in the car. i just added my subs and amps to the car, and it sounds great, but the bass now way over powers the rest of the speakers. so i was wondering if i could just take out the factory amp, and just cut the wire harness off the amp and run those wires into my alpine amp. if that would work, that would solve all my problems with buying a new deck, losing the "clean" dash look, and losing my steering wheel controls. does anyone have a definete answer to if this will work or not? thank you guys...

On the contrary, the deck is the source of all your sq. so, if you ever did decide to upgrade the HU it would be a good decision. There are quite a few "clean" cd players out there nowadays and can be custom designed to fit your dash wihtout losing the look you want. Also, there is an adapter for our steering wheel controls that allows you to keep them with an aftermarket HU, the product number is PAC SWI-X and it sells for $75 at crutchfield.
