How big can I go without a drop and not look weird?

I have a set of 15" Enkei's I picked up for cheap in a rush to get rid of sawblades - 15" because I wasn't ready financially to buy new tires a few months back. Right now my wheel gap is about 5 INCHES!!

Now I have the money so I'm looking to buy bigger rims. Preferably 17's or 18's but here's the problem. The roads are not that good around here so I'm worried about scraping the underbody at times if I go too low.

I guess it can't get any weirder looking with the current giant wheel gap I have but will bigger wheels decrease the gap? Pics?? Thanks

I think 17's is the largest I would consider going without a drop, plus its a good ride for the conditions of the roads you mentioned.

Match it up with a good 235/40/17 tire and you should be set to go.

bigger wheel = thinner tires.

45 series, not 40.. and it wont get rid of the wheel gap unless you lower it. Even if you go all the way upto 18's, you'll look like a 4x4 without a drop.

Largest I would ever go without lowering a maxima would be 16s, maybe 17s if you really wanted to push it but in that case I would get 225-50's instead of 235-45s, to fill up more of the wheel well. Anything larger and you are going to look like a clown driving down the road. (just my opinion.)

On stock height you will look like a clown no matter what. The overall diameter of the tire will remain the same unless you change from recommended size and then you have speedo/odo issues.

You could probably get away with putting some wheels from another Nissan/Infiniti on without dropping it... maybe 2k+ Maxima 17's or 17" G35 rims. If you get anything that looks aftermarket or draws attention, it will just look silly.

The roads would have to be ridiculus for you to scrape the underside of the car even with a 2" drop. You'll still have around 8" of clearance on the front bumper, it should be more than enough. Replacing the wheels with bigger ones will not fill the wheel gap any differently, unless you get tires that are not the proper size.

There was a link around for a tirerack.com review of drops on a BMW that said something about if the tire size gets smaller (bigger wheel) it will make the gap look bigger even though it's not.

The thing is that no matter how much bigger you go, the gap will just get worse. Like doggy said, bigger wheel=thinner tire= bigger gap.

Does it matter The stock suspension looks like you have air bags in the front and its lifted ALL the way up. Its disgusting. Just get it lowered.
