Installing Hitch on a '03 Maxima?

I used to go mountain biking very often in the past and every time i went up in the hills, i had no problem using my $50 bike rack on my Old Audi.

Well, now with the 03 Max SE and the spoiler on the trunk lid....bike rack is not an option. (i think) Unless i get one of the racks that is attached to a hitch. So, now i need a hitch.

I went to U-Haul and they sell a hitch for my Maxima and it's about $85. Install is $45.

I was wondering ...has anyone here installed a light duty hitch on their Maxima? Are there any complications involved with this? Any side effects other than a few extra pounds? Do i really need to pay U-Haul $45 to install it or it is an easy do-it-yourself job?

Thanks for any responses.

I have a Draw-Tite installed on my 03 for hauling my motorcycle to Sturgis and Daytona so far, can hardly tell I'm towing something. It is well made and you can hardly see it as all but the 2" receiver is hidden from view. Pay the $ to have it installed as it involves drilling the spare tire well.

Don't be a tightwad. I would pay to have it professionally installed unless you have detailed instructions to do it yourself. $45 isn't that much for labor these days.

i have a hidden hitch on my 2k. pulls a 4x8 trailer and a decent load with no problems. the main reason is for a bike rack though.

What about a roof rack?

Removable, no drilling, just dont pull into the garage with your bike up there

Thule (or Yakima) roof rack, man....not only carries bikes, but also skis.snowboards, lumber, kayaks, car-top cargo boxes, fiberglass shower assemblies (for my new bathroom) and you can stand on it to get a good view ahead if you're stuck in gridlock. And personally I like how it looks too....
