Newbie needs purchasing and mods advice

Guys,
Looking to purchase a 2002 6sp SE in the next couple of months to replace my our ancient, 95 Celica GT.

Any advice on what to look for when shopping, any issues or problems to keep an eye out for - anything please feel free to post.

I'm also looking for a few mods right out of the shoot, starting with an intake kit and possibly pulleys. Any advice here would be appreciated too.

My background is small block Fords ( 5.0 ) carbed and fuel injected performance mods. I have pretty extensive background in this area including head porting, which I mess around with as a hobby. I've ported a few pairs of heads, and run a set of them on my current toy, a Factory Five Racing roadster ( Cobra replica ).

I plan to scan this board and search it extensively over the next few weeks for info, but if you guys have any quick and important advice, please feel free.

I'm really looking forward to owning a Maxima, and I've wanted one for quite a while.

Thanks!

maximas are overall good cars.. the only problems i've had are the warping of rotors... they are too small but you could just fix those by buying some brembo rotors.. other than that i dont have any problems with my maxima...

also good mods for maximas are usually intakes.. recommend BERK .. for the 2002+ Cattman ypipe
UDP pulley, suspension depending on your preferences...
catback..

but if you wana go all out .. just supercharge the ****...

Thanks Scopium

I guess one of the other reasons I'm interested in this car is reliability. I'm not under the impression they have any problems at all really, just looking for info. Consumers reports showed all areas either excellent or very good except the brakes, which they rated as "good" for the 2002. I wasn't sure exactly what that meant, but now I have some idea.

Brembo rotors..what about pads? You guys run Hawk street performance compound pads in these cars, or do most guys prefer the "green stuff" pads? I've had a few sets of Hawks in my other cars and loved them.

I gotta check into the Berk intake. That'll probably be the first mod I make.

Keep em coming guys.

Hawk pads will be fine. Axxis pads work well also.

look if you want an easy and fairly inexpensive brake upgrade...check out this site: www.mattblehm.com

aftermarket big brake kits will not fit under your OEM rims, and Brembos will warp also, as you will see if you search threads. This seems to be a good solution and are working great for me after a couple thousand miles now.....
