5 Speed wont go in to 1st or 2nd Gear
I need help my 1999 Nissan Maxima Se will not go into 1st or 2nd Gear. It goes into 3rd 4th and 5th with no problem also Reverse. It just happened today. I dont know what it could be that wont allow it to go into 1st and 2nd. If it was the clutch I thought it wouldnt go into any gear. PLEASE HELP NEED QUICK RESPONSE BEFORE I GO TO PEP BOYS TO HAVE IT CHECKED.
check your clutch master cylinder fluid level, I'll be willing to bet its low/empty. If so, you have a leak, and you'll just need to bleed the full system. If its full, try adjusting your clutch throw, could have moved itself.
If you experience these problems with the engine off, you can rule out a clutch problem.
Were there any problems as far as clutch chatter? Leaking axle seals? When my bearings failed on me, the metal that used to be bearings droped down into the shift linkage; maybe this happened to you.
Check the shift rods to make sure they're not bent and/or obstructed in any way.

check the shifter before you spend any cash! one time i thought my tranny was shot and it turned out to be a bad shifter, i just got a short throw shifter and problem solved. this was in a ford, but i'm pretty sure you can still have this problem
