New to Maxima ownership

Greetings everyone.

I am a soon to be owner of a slightly used Maxima. I am buying a 96 GLE (At least I think it's a GLE) from my grandmother in a few weeks. This car is in mint condition with only 37000 mile on it. I can't pass this one up since she is only charging me $5000 for it. However even though the car looks and runs great stock, I was wondering what type of performance mods can be made to make it just a bit quicker. I am not looking to break the bank but i am willing to spend a few bucks. I read in one of the posts here about a Hybrid fuel cell. Can anyone give me more information about that topic? I would also like to replace the stock Bose stereo, even though it was top of the line in its day I need a little extra, any suggestions? Last but not least if anyone can point me to a few sites where i can purchase suspension, perfomance, etc, parts that would be great..

Thanks everyone,
AJ

Welcome to the .org.
Biggest tip for you=just look around.

I think the hybrid fuel cell thing was a hoax. They were just joking around with that.

Read, read, and then read some more and you will find out what all you need to do to your max.
I think I read stuff for like 3 weeks before I even posted something, because there was so much information to soak up. I wish I could say the same for some of the newbies that come now. Seems like all they do is talk, and they don't read anything that was already said in days past.

Just some advice.

Happy modding.

Welcome to the .org!

Brudaddy's right, lurking for information's the best way to start learning stuff. I still think of myself as a lurker, partly because I still think I don't know anything... ...even though I've started posting.

As far as performance mods go, I'm fairly confident that most of the .org members would tell you to go with a y-pipe as the first mod, and as best bang for the buck. Prices seem to go from 150-250 depending on what brand and such, it shouldn't be too hard to find the exact prices. Budget (the brand, not the adjective) seems to be the cheapest, and people still like it performance and quality-wise... I'm thinking about a Warpspeed myself, which is somewhere in the middle of the price range.

I don't know anything about audio, so I can't help you there... I'm happy with my Bose with my iPod hooked up to it. There's an audio and electronics forum on the .org, you might try posting in there.

Good luck!

Wow, that's a nice find. Mines a 99 with more mileage than that. Like everyone said, read the FAQ's and stickies. There is a ton of info on that. A popular mod is the y-pipe. Gives good gains for a reasonable price. An intake is another good place to start. For suspension springs help get rid of the 4x4 look, and a rear swaybar does wonders. All of those things can be done for around a couple hundred bucks each or less.

It wasn't a hoax! Hybrid fuel cell=pure hotness!

Anyways, it depends on what you want. As always, the ypipe upgrade will add the most hp for the cheapest price (best bang for the buck). spend a little looking around and you'll get the gist.
