Sell old for new?

I have a 96 GXE and was looking at the newer 4th Gens on edmunds.com and well..I like how the 97-99's look better than the 95 and 96's. Would it be worth it to sell mine to buy a newer one or is it pretty pointless? I'd like to get a better color too cause I have a beige one and I'd like an SE in a darker color. My dad says I'd lose a lot of money by selling it and I probably wouldnt have enough to buy another one. I dont know what to do but if I can I would like to get a newer one. Maybe a 98 or 99. Like I said, is it pointless to sell my old car for a newer one?

It'd be a really bad move. Your post is a loaded question, because you use the word pointless more than once. Going from a 96 to a 98-99 is exactly that. But why do I get the feeling you're gonna just do what you want anyway? Are you 2nd guessing your dad?

Do a 97 front end conversion. Maybe mod the tail lights. Put some 97 rims on it. You never know the history of another Maxima, and what if it wasn't as reliable, had been wrecked, etc....

yea do a 97 front end conversion and change to a 97 bumper so u can get red clears. plus being a 96 you have an option to upgrade your ecu which is a major plus.

its pointless IMO, If you wanted to get a different max I would get the 3.5 5th gen if you had the means. If not and you got a good offer for yours and found a newer 4th gen you liked then go for it, just dont take a loss......

I would do all that stuff, but my dad won't let me do any kind of work on it myself. I'm freakin' 17 and he doesn't think I'm competant enough to work on MY car. It's demoralizing, lol. I'll figure something out. I understand what you're saying MaximamixaM about the car might not have a clean history. I'm starting to think mine might be a little dirty in it's records. My friend pointed out that the back two windows are tinted but the rear window isn't, he said that might be because it was rear-ended and the rear window was probably replaced. So I'm a little concerned that I bought a car that was damaged. Anyway hopefully I can do something about it, I'm not going to fret too much at least I have a car period. Thanks guys.
