Well, I love my Maxima, however, I love driving stick and I have an auto...
If I get a stick I want something that is a little sportier than the Maxima so I was thinking of getting a 300ZX. Here's my plan:
I go to basic training this summer and when I get back I'll have 3000 dollars from my signing bonus and any pay I get. If I do decide to get the 300ZX, I would sell my Maxima for around 6000-6500 and then combine my 2 funds and get a REALLY nice 300ZX and use any extra money I have to work on the engine (make it FASTER!!!!!) You guys think this a good plan?

Umm, what about a little thing called WINTER? It does snow in NJ. Also, have you forgotten about insurance/maintenance/practicality?

Why not trade in ur old auto max for a newer manuel one??

yeah, being young with a 300ZX will probably kill you, seeing that you are male.

It is a good goal if you want to do that though. Go for it. It is definitely reachable.

I owned a 90 NA 300zx before my max, and well I loved it. Most Z's are very reliable (my bro has a really nice 93), but they are definently high maintenance, and you have to be willing to either put in the shop time, or pay the $$$ (cause everything is darn expensive for Z's).

with that in mind, Z's really aren't practicle as a sole daily driver, you are really going to want to have a beater around. And as for snow/ice, well Z's HATE rain, let alone snow. if its snowing, you'd better just put a car cover over it and stay inside.

They are great cars, and I loved mine, but they are costly, and high maint., not practicle daily drivers/winter drivers, and basically that is why I sold my Z, and bought a maxima, something sporty and quick, but something that I could drive everyday, and in the winter and what not. Just some imput for ya.

Before i owned the max, i owned a 90 300zx. Wasn't the best of cars when i took it off the second owner's hands. Just like Chickan says maintenance is #1 for those cars. Those cars will treat you right if and only if you throw alot of money into it for maintenance. I didn't take care of my baby, so it lemoned on me. You can either really love that car or really hate it.

If you're not into taking the car into the shop maybe once every 3 months or so, stick with the maxima.

yeah, you prolly cannot get that kind of money for a 10 year old car, even though it is in good shape.

I would say don't even worry about it if you are going to get a NA Z. Only do it if you are going to throw some money at it and if you are going to get a TT Z. Otherwise, just stick with a max.
Maybe sell that one, and get a 5spd.
