Pros and Cons of Drop Resistor

A friend and me will be doing the drop resistor mod soon. I feel as if my auto is relatively fast as it is but then again lets see what the mod will do and won't do. I'm worried about the reliability of the trans., will it hurt it over all? Should I then also get a tranny cooler? And we will wire up a switch so that it works when I hit it. All comments welcome.

i wouldn't recomend it...my tranny was fine before i did it, then afterwards it decided it didn't like shifting anymore...i would use a wot switch and a regular switch too. use it sparingly though.

HMM so negative on the mod then? I didn't know it affected reliability.

my tranny shifted absolutely fine...i tried it out one night cause i was going to race someone...stupid i know...and went out, beat him, plugged it back in and the car shifted like i fried all the cluch packs...never got better, even had the system flushed and put in lucas auto tranny fix, and nothing got any better...i've kept it unplugged since then because it would take till like 5k before it would shift even under partial/little throttle for every gear. Jime has had little to no problems with his, so it's up to you...it's your car.

I have done this and not had any problems at all and I have 222,500 miles on my tranny.I have mine hooked with a micro switch to the gas pedal to break the circuit at WOT.The key to this is at full throttle. You don't want full line pressure shifts cruising around town that is definitly hard on the transmission.Beleive it or not it is good for your transmission to shift fast between 1 to 2 because with the slow shifts it puts more wears on the clutch packs. After writing this my tranny will probably fall out tommorow now! It's like everyone else will tell you it's your car though so it is up to you to take the chance.I figure I don't have much longer til mine craps out anyway then I can build it like I want to with a good stall converter.

Only use it at WOT + get a tranny cooler and you'll be perfectly fine. Its when you use it at partial throttle, thats when it starts to cause damage. Otherwise you'll be fine.

Don't listen to these pescimists. This mod is great and I don't think it adds heat to the tranny. Less slipage in between gears equals less heat but more stress. Simple solution, unplug it and see if you like it. Problem solved.

WHAT?? It does increase heat, even after a couple minutes of driving it gets extremely hot if u do not have a cooler, anyway i do not do it anymore cause i started having tranny problems after doing the mod BTW i do not have a cooler

I think we should find someone that has a temp gauge in their tranny and ask them. This debate has been going on for so long. There is no way to settle it unless we have real life proof. Not theory. And not, it gets hot after a couple minutes of driving. That is very inconslusive. I think it doesn't increase heat because the TC spends less time spinning unloaded than it does in stock condition. We all know that friction creates heat and removing the DR reduces friction. Either way I don't care because I want an excuse to go 5Spd. Now you know my opinion.

I think Jime was going to do a comparison with and without the cooler as far as fluid temp is concerned.
