Satisfied w/ your non-stock headlights? Check in

I recently got some Sylvania "Cool Blues" to match my rice bulbs in all my front lenses...but they are NOT any brighter than stock halogen.

I do want to have a blue tint in the bulb, but also I want them to be bright. I dont care too much about wet/nighttime visibilty cuz I try not to drive anyway during that condition.

What bulbs do you have and are you satisfied w/ the cosmetic and ACTUAL looks?

EDIT: I'm more concerned about the bulbs being WHITE when turned on, and not the ugly "yellow" halogen color.

I use PIAA Xtreme White 9004 for mine. They are considerably white, with hints of blue. I've been very happy with the results. On my 2nd gen with the crappy headlight housing they have, I still get a good light pattern out with these bulbs. I also have a set of PIAA Xtreme Force bulbs on my Volvo, now those come out a blue tint, and the beam pattern is awesome....but they are 9006, and I don't think PIAA makes the Xtreme Force that are 9004 or 9007 however.

I had Piaa super white, and Piaa extreme white... And both those bulbs sucked ***. They looked good though. But the light output was no better than stock. I wanted more light output so I went with 6k HID's.

i have phillips blue visions and they are whiter than stock. i like them, and the price is right on them. you're not gonna get much of an improvement with halogen bulbs in our awesome 9004 housings.

i used to have nokya artic whites that had a very white w/ blue tint to them. the visability sucked so bad during rain or just bad weather conditions and weren't worth it, plus they attracted too much attention which i hate.

I just upgraded to PIAA Xtreme White and I'm not terribly impressed. Oh well, definitely look better (whiter) than stock, even if they're not much brighter.

4th gens with HIDs, how much did you pay in total for the complete package? Did you install yourself? Did you get a (custom?) projector made? Is the beam pattern good or do you just blind oncoming traffic? If I go HID I want to do it RIGHT.

Get HIDs and be happy with your life. Problem is not with the bulbs, it is the crappy 9004 Housing that we 4th gens get :\

No....I don't like Halogens, Sylvania "Cool Blues" , PIAA's are to expensive to be changing out every six months. It's time for a HID conversion....

Bijan-
I bought the "Cool Blues" at one time. You are correct, they suck. If you want to stick with Sylvania, go with "Silver Stars." I have them on my bike. They are brighter and whiter than stock halogens. If you really want the best in replacement bulbs, go with the PIAA Xtreme white bulbs. I had them before I upgraded to 2k3 HIDs.

You are talking about two different issues. Yes, it is the bulbs that suck. And yes, the 9004 housings on the 4th gens aren't the best.

I got the Silverstars, it's brighter and whiter than the Cool Blues. Been using them for 2 years now, and pretty satisified.

my response:

Good experiances:

Sylvania Cool Blues.....last long, stock looking but better output
GE super blue....same as Cool Blues
APC Sim. HID....havent blown yet and have been running for countless years, they light output is identicle to cool blues.
Wagner Truview.... my current bulb, a bit purple and great visibility
Koito (dont remeber the style)....great stuff white and bright
Sylvania OEM replacements...the best OE bulb

Bad experiances:

No name 80/100 watt blue bulbs...junk
APC Superstreet whatever blue 80/100...blue blue blue....output sucks but better then the APC really blue 45/60 which really stink just like
Target blue bulbs....blue blue blue...and junk junk junk
Euro lights....crap
Liteformz Hyper White Xenon..... best color blue but still junk, blew in a month
Cuzo blues and purples.....color fades, short lifespan 1-2 months
APC Icy hot Gold Ion.....great color, short life 1-2 months

Mixed feelings:

Wagner Lazer Blue....great white light.... 5 month life
Optilux blue.....nice and cheap....6-7 month life
Silverstars....less then a year lifespan but look rather nice

Stay away from the blue bulbs...they all stink. Really.

Bluish tint on bulbs will actually reduce their effectiveness. Sylvania Silverstars are supposed to be like 10-20% brighter than stock halogen, and still have a little bluish hue. The Euro versions of those bulbs have no blue tint, which is why they are another 10% brighter...

Other option maybe to convert to a better bulb. There have been a few people I know that went to a 9007 bulb and it yielded good results. You'd have to reverse the hi and low beam wires I believe, but other than that, they should fit right in. They just have a bigger bulb.

Other than that, if your looking for better lights, HID is the way to go.

True....

I'm running shielded 9004 bulbs, it reduced the glare. But killed my light output. Im gonna get some 4100 or 4300K bulbs. 6000k suck ***!

According to http://www.hidforum.com/ayh/lumen.php Phillips Vision Plus is the brightest bulb.

For comparo

Wagner Truview on the left and Sylvania Silver Stars on the right. At night on a wall my Wagners shine brighter.

I am in the process of converting to 9007. You have to file the 2 bottom tabs in the headlight assembly and switch the low beam and ground wires in the connector. When I do this I'm going to install my 12 gauge headlight harness compleat with relays. I just need a good bulb.

There is a bulb made by Sylvania or Phillips that is advertised as being 30% brighter.. and infact, these bulbs are noticeably brighter than stock. The thing is that they are of the same shade/color as stock bulbs.. Take it as a bad or a good thing.
I am not sure i want to mess with white/blue bulbs.. brings too much attention to the car, don't want to stand out at night too much.

yeah, i think it's the sylvania xtravisions. the light output is more than stock, but with the same color temperature.

I have Sylvannia SilverStars, I would recommend them. They are horrible in rain or bad weather, but in dry vision they are probably as good. I think that's the case with all halogen bulbs, yet I think these might be a cut above in terms of visiblity. I added a grounding kit and I think that has helped a little (appears to be brighter).

Eurolite is one of those ricey brands, no offense to anyone..
They look a little cheap, they aren't brighter at all.. I'd stick with better brands. Sylvania Silverstars are supposed to be good, with almost no blue at all.
As far as brighter blueish bulbs. I'd get some upgraded headlight harness and go with a higher wattage bulb...

I would highly reconmend the Slyvania Xtravisions. They are not as white as the SilverStars, but are definitely not yellow. They are a nice upgrade from the OEM bulbs. They also increase the beam length and width and cost about $10 a bulb at Pep Boys. With the Xtravisions, I can actually see where I'm going when it's raining.

check out the pic

Try the philips vision plus or the OSRAM silverstars (not the blue sylvania ones). THey were top ranked for brightness (furthest distance) in some UK car website.

I have PIAA Extreme Force bulbs and love them. Not blue at all, SUPER white and very bright.

Of course, my housing is better than stock it seems.
