Rear Brake Smoking
Rear Brake Smoking
I kept hearing a rubbing sound (metal on metal) but couldn't pin point it. Then I started to smell brakes. Checked the passenger rear ...and BULLSEYE. Any quick fix to this problem??
this happened to me and the e brake was off. so I tore down the caliper expecting it to be seized, but it all worked fine the piston turned in and everything
, I just double checked everything and and threw it back together. and its worked fine eversince.

I had the EXACT same problem. I breaks had felt very weak and locked up a couple times under normal breaking conditions, but couldn't figure out what was going on. Then, last friday, I drove to a friends house (only about 15 miles) and detected a horrible smell. When I walked around the car, my passenger rear wheel was smoking! Turns out, my passenger rear caliper wasn't fully releasing. I had to get new calipers, discs, and pads. The total job was about $500, and I got labor for half price and the system flushed for free. The calipers cost a fortune: $150/apiece. Have someone look at it. Hope your repair is cheaper than mine.
I had to change my rear brakes recently too cause the calipers were close to seized. On one side, one of the pads had even cracked in half.
