Rear Brake Smoking

I kept hearing a rubbing sound (metal on metal) but couldn't pin point it. Then I started to smell brakes. Checked the passenger rear ...and BULLSEYE. Any quick fix to this problem??

Release your hand brake!
Hope that it's that simple, if not most likely shot calipers.

Metal on metal means it's worn down past where pad material is, and now the metal backing is pushing against the rotor. Did it sound like grinding? You'll probably need new rotor, caliper, and pads.

I had the EXACT same problem. I breaks had felt very weak and locked up a couple times under normal breaking conditions, but couldn't figure out what was going on. Then, last friday, I drove to a friends house (only about 15 miles) and detected a horrible smell. When I walked around the car, my passenger rear wheel was smoking! Turns out, my passenger rear caliper wasn't fully releasing. I had to get new calipers, discs, and pads. The total job was about $500, and I got labor for half price and the system flushed for free. The calipers cost a fortune: $150/apiece. Have someone look at it. Hope your repair is cheaper than mine.

Yeah. I had the same experience and I think you may need to change your entire rear brake setup like me which is pretty costly.

I had to change my rear brakes recently too cause the calipers were close to seized. On one side, one of the pads had even cracked in half.

rebuilt calipers at Autozone $70 each on sale
Rear rotors $25 each
rear pads $40? (bought them a long time ago..Raybestos QS)
