proportion valve on rear brakes

I have a 90 SE 5 spd for a project..........and the rear brakes appear to be shot. I knew the back left brake line was broken, but i also noticed when i got under the car at my house that that side proportion valve is gone, and the right hand side looks pretty bad and rusty. How much to replace them? How much woudl calipers be to replace......they don't look to be in great shape either. If the cost factor is too much, I'll just part teh car out. It woudl be too bad, cuz it runs sweet and the interior is in super nice condition......black leather. Also, the pipe just before teh catalytic converter is rotted and cracked.....looks to be a flex pipe. Whats the easiest and least expensive way to repair it? Thanks

WTF? there are side proportioning valves on these cars?
Never heard of such a thing.

If you do the work yourself you can probably have it all done for about $200
Depending on where you buy and what you buy for parts.

BTW the calipers are on my site and one of these days I'll actually list the exhaust too.

Some models had load adjusting proportioning valves in the back. don't know exactly which models had them though..

they're about $300 each from the dealer to replace. I'm not sure if you can bypass them or not, since the other models didn't have them, I'm thinking you can just bypass them and run the lines straight to the MC and you'll be okay. (but of course don't take that for gospel. do some research on your own to find if that's true or not)

thansk for the input guys........yikes...$300... Are they absolutely necessary? Will the brakes function properly without them, or just lock up with the slightest touch on the brake pedal? Thats too much of a cost factor to get the car up and going......I'd rather strip and part it out in that case. What can be done about these valves?

I ran new lines from the gactory prop. valve under the hood to the rears, bypassing the LSV's on my car. It work's.
