Pwr win/locks/seats/seatbelt/trunk circuit
Pwr win/locks/seats/seatbelt/trunk circuit
I have an 89 GXE.
The power windows, door locks, seats, seat belt and trunk opener all quit at the same time.
Circuit breaker #1 is constantly kicking out indicating a short.
I pulled the LH door panel, unhooked the pwr window switches, unplugged the trunk release switch, unplugged all the seat connectors, trunk relay & solenoid. Unplugged the seatbelt retractor motors, rear limit switches and seatbelt control computer. I've unplugged just about everything but still get short. About the only remaining connectors are the passgenger door switches and tracing the wires.
It's a real pain because the front windows are down. Otherwise I'd just unplug the circuit breaker and be done with it.
Anyone have any more suggestions?
TIA
Rick

No accident.
4 months ago the alternator went out.
About 1 month later the battery wouldn't hold a charge. My son replaced the battery and started to hook up the leads backwards. I ended up replacing the fusible link and his head.
Since then there has been one incident when the car stopped dead while driving.
Thought it was the alternator but it checked out OK. Charged the battery and everything was OK for 2 months.
Now circuit breaker #1 keeps tripping like a dead short. I've unhooked everything except the passenger door switches. That's next.
Where do all the wires on this circuit get spliced together? I know the trunk switch is spliced in the LH door. Because there are several different runs on the w/r wire it is difficult to isolate one to find the short. Would be nice if there was a connector for all the runs. The service repair manual does not inidcate where the splices are.
