Cattman/Progress RSB -- Disappointed :(

After the thing sitting in my basement for over a month I decided to go put this thing on.

Once I opened the little box with all of the supplied materials, I noticed I was missing the 4 3/8" hex nuts that go on the U-shaped brackets.

Next, once I installed the RSB and took the car out for a drive I noticed some type of loud BANGING sound everytime I hit a bump in the road.

I then noticed that something was hitting 1 of the brackets so I moved the U bracket as far as I could untill the bend in the bar. Took the Car out for a drive again and still the banging.

What the heck can I do now to get rid of this annoying bang? It sounds as If my suspension bottoms-out. What a design of a product. I'm very unhappy at this time.

Dude, i wouldn't drive the car without that Hex nuts. Your suspension is now unstable, just go to your local hardware store or auto parts placeand pick one up. To easy of fix to overlook , if not you could screw up your suspension , yet worse, God forbid you are flying around a corner and you lose control and crash.....over some lousy hex nuts, it not worth it....

And your car is still making a "banging" sound after you installed them?

There's an easy fix to this- I just don't remember what it is.

I love my Cattman/Progress RSB.

yes. It looks to be as if the some bar over the rear axle (where the exhaust curves over before connecting to the b pipe) hits it when I hit a bump

You might have to have a muffler shop make a support bracket for the exhaust then. Shouldn't be more than $15 and an hour out of your day.

Sounds like the RSB maybe bent, or may be lose. If you look under you car does the RSB look strait or crooked. If not jack up the car and see if it is slightly lose. If you have adjustable suspension, check to see the ride height and hardness of it.

It's none of that. I just did a search and talked to other members and they all say that this is a very common issue.

The Fix:

Either move the U brackets closer to the middle of the rear axle (lessens the performance of the RSB)

or

Shave the bracket so it doesn't hit anymore.

Move the U brackets under the axle atleast 4.5" from the bend.

Hey Igor 911, I have the same bar and it's great no banging and I live in pothwhole land. I put the U bolt near the side where there is a metal piece solder on the beam, you fix the U-bolt about 2-3 inches toward the wheel not the center. I'll try to take some pics later when the heavy rain stop. Drop me your e-mail and I'll send those pics later.

Cheers

On a similar note, how dificult is it to install the RSB?I'm thinking of buying one and installing it myself. same for the front strut bar. and where's the cheapest place to get the stuff?

thanks

It's hitting a piece of metal attached to the axle I believe. You just need to move the brackets in to the middle or out to the edge of the bar. If you look up you'll see sort of a corner sticking out and the end of the flat metal bar is hitting when the axle goes up and down. I had the same problem when I installed my bar. You can probably see the part that hits because it should be shiny because of the two metals meeting. Just get under and look up. Then reposition the brackets very easy fix.

Move the brackets in and the banging will go away, this is installer error not product design error

This is a 20-30 minutes install and you have to jack up the rear, if you have ramps that would be perfect for this installation, very easy to do.

Good luck

It took me about 2+ hrs or so, including taking off the wheels, realizing i was missing parts, going to home depot, jaking up car again and then fixing brackets...

Damn Igor, how long does it take you to do an oil change?

Seriously though, you just need to reinstall it (move the brackets slightly)...

So what are your impressions now that you have corrected the placement issue of the brackets? How's it feel with your other suspension upgrades?
