Pics of my first ever complete car paint job (not my 93)

I finally painted my 92 that I am selling. I use SSU (single stage urethane) since it was cheap and I am selling it anyway.

It came out pretty nice for my first ever complete paint job. I learned a few things in doing it that will help me do a better job on my 93 when the time comes so I am glad I went ahead and painted this car before my 93.

here are some pics.

Also note I didnt just paint over the buttons and the plastic trim around the door handles. I took the handles off and took all of that stuff off before putting the handles back on the car to paint. I did the same with the mirrors.

He bought it not too long ago, I think he made a thread.

Man Michael, I really really want to paint mine now, I didn't even have time to recover from the last bloo VE you showed me, lol.

Did you do it in your garage or use a friends booth/etc?

Did you paint it outside or in a garage. In the last pic I like the way you have that glare right above the corner markers space.

I am thinking about re-painting my max. I am going to paint it outside but in a 10x15 ft tent.

MrGone, turdlett, yeah like James said I painted it in the carport this morning at 5a.m. It is unbelievably trash free. It has 2 small spots where 2 bugs flew into it at about 7 before it was dry enough.

Normally I wouldnt recomend doing this but my friend with the paint booth (where I am painting my 93) is out of town for 2 weeks and I need to finish this car and sell it. I was told by a couple of old painters to do it early in the morning because there is no dust stired up and the dew is still on the ground. It came out great except for the 2 bugs. Its not a big deal since I can sand it out though

I see. With the tent that I have I am putting some plastic around it so that the wind or whatever else dont disrupt the paint job. But I can really car less because a few little bugs and maybe a dust patch can get sanded and covered up. Especially with the drying time to be about 3 hours then it'll definately be straight. Hopefully the tent wont cause a cooking effect and make my paint boil up.

You will be fine...the only advice I have on something like that is to make sure you have good ventilation (fans and filters) and be sure to have a fresh air source or at least a good respirator because paint fumes can damage your health.

here is a nice home made paint booth made from a tint.

also I want to make it clear...my intentions on this paint job was not for a show quality but for it to look good so I can sell it. It is not perfect and there are some dull areas here and there plus the 2 bug spots and one little run (very small) but for my first time it was pretty good. I will wet sand and buff and it will hopefully be close to show quality then.

I will work on that tomorrow because the Psheet said to let dry overnight before sanding and buffing.

I am confident that I can make the 93 show quality now though . I would like a couple of more paint jobs under my belt before I paint the 93 but I think I will be ok.

yeah the wife isnt too happy about the cars LOL. I got the blue one a couple of weeks ago. Its still on the trailer. I am going to get what I need and cut it up for scrap in the coming days. I have that truck in the background full of parts that I am going to haul off with it. Then I can get rid of the truck too. I just have too much junk that I need to get rid of.

sure come on over to MS, buy the paint and me a little spending money (so I can finish my car) and I will take care of it .

Same goes for you Irishmax.

Unfortunately I live in MS so no one is close to me and I am not a good enough painter for people to come from all parts of the US to have me paint their car LOL.

Cheocwa---well I guess this is the first one I have revived (would be a better word) or at least the first one I have finished. I got the car cheap because the Tbelt broke. I replaced all the valves, had a valve job done and replaced all the exhaust studs. After that I replaced all the interior (it was brown and tan with cracked leather) with black and gray. repaired all the bose amps and installed a DD head unit. I really like the car but my wife needed a minivan so we got one and now I have to sell this one.

The 93 will be finished this summer I hope.

crsmax---well all together I have been working on it off and on for a couple of months. I had some dents to fix and I had to repair hail damage to the roof and trunk.

It took me about 1.5 hrs to spray it (dry times, refilling my paint cup etc. included).

Great job!! I just got a new Max - black as well - was thinking of trying to spray it myself as well. Love the tip about doing it early in the morning - thanks!

that does look really good, man! yea, how much work is it to take all the old paint off? It sounds like a real PITA, but I really have no idea. If I ever go down to MS for something, I'll definetly give you a call
