Can't afford y-pipe. Can I gut the pre-cat?

Ok, I'm broke. Can I gut that pre-cat thats on the stock y-pipe? Not my main cat but the little nasty lookin one. Would it even make any difference?

It's not only the pre cats but the collector (or lack of) and smooth bends that allow your exhaust to flow better with an aftermarket Y pipe.

Don't waste your time gutting anything, save some $$ and get the right product for the outcome your looking for.
