my new (to me) maxima came with god awful looking rims. I was thinking of painting them with wheel paint maybe, but don't know how it'll turn out. Might not be worth the trouble. what do you think?

I don't think painting them will help.

They look like they belong on a diesel Rabbit or Benz

ha ha my stock honeycomb rims look better than those If you want to keep those then you can try making them a gunmetal color (http://forums.maxima.org/showpost.ph...2&postcount=17) especially those gold things

If those are 15" rims and you want to keep those tires, then get some sawblades (a set goes for $150-$200). If you want, you can get stock Max rims in 16" or 17" from later year Maximas, but you'll need new tires. You can always buy aftermarket rims

yes laugh all you want, they are ugly as hell. I like the rims from the 5th gens. They should be a direct swap, right?

5th gen rims will fit on your 4th gen Remember, they'll be heavier so you might get a little slower A y-pipe will help in this situation

those are one of the fugliest rims i've ever seen

but as others said some stock 15" - 17" Max rims would make a huge diff. in appearance .. I like the 5th gen. 16" 5-spoke rims

it's up to you what you want to put on your max, let us know what rims you picked

a classified listing in my area shows a set of 17" 01 anniversary edition rims with 85% tread(suppsedly) for $750 or best offer. does that seem like a good deal? i don't know enough yet to judge the price for myself.

Just go to the classifieds like others have said.
You ought to be able to pick up some stock 4th gen 97-99 5-star wheels, maybe even with some tires, for like $400 or so. They look really good on our cars. I love my stock wheels.
They are pretty good in the weight area too. They only weigh 19.6 lbs each without tires. This is a good thing to have, esp for the stock wheels.

The stock 5th gens are much heavier, and will slow you down a lot more than I would want. Just like Jatan said. I would not get those, IMO.

I wouldn't get the 5spoke 4th gen wheels. They are HEAVY not light. At 20lbs compare to the 16.5 of the sawblades. The 5 spokes look better but aren't worth it.
