best brakes for the buck

I am looking into replacing my front brakes/rotors on my 98 GLE. Which type should i look for (ceramic, metallic, semi-metallic, etc.) And which brands? And where to buy?
Thanks in advance.

A lot of people like Rabestos Quiet Stop. You can get them through most auto parts stores around town or order them online from places like www.rockauto.com. They're about $40 an axle I think. Check out http://maxmods.dyndns.org/index.php?MaximaBrakePads

TRW also makes a nice pad. I think they ran me 38 bucks. They come with new shims too.

avoid metallic/semi-metallic... unless you like the sound of school buses

I had some semi-metallic "lifetime warranty" pads for about 3 months... good stopping power, but I've heard they chew through rotors...not to mention that every time I stopped, they squealed like crazy

now im running raybestos QS

I have Hawk HPS pads in the front and OEM in the back. I am very happy with their performance, a bit dusty though(Hawk), but I will gladly deal with some dust to have better braking. If you do not do spirited driving just stick with the OEM ones. They are good pads, but the Hawks resist fading better. You can pick them up at the www.tirerack.com . I actually purchased them from another website but now I can't remember the site.

Rotors - some have had good luck with the 19.99 variety at Autozone (AIMCO)... You can also get other brands (Raybestos, etc.) that run 30-40 bucks a piece... or Nissan OEM for 60... everyone has their own preference and both good and bad stories using each type - so just pick what suits your budget.

Rotors: go with some OEM blanks from your local parts store. they should be like $20 each.

Pads: Raybestos Quietstop. Good stopping power. Very lot dust. About $40.
