another fuel injector shot!!! UGH!!!

OK...12 months ago, I lost #2 fuel injctr and replaced it. didn't have the cash to layout for all 6.

9 months ago I lost #3 and had the cash...replaced all 6. purchased Venom Injectors from Summit Racing and they worked fine until today.

started the car up and it was running ruff like before. before to long the CE light came on and I pulled the codes. Cyl #2 misfire & knock sensor problems. Pretty sure that the Cyl #2 misfire is from another bad injector.

Regarding the KS, I'm sure the rattling of the block due to the misfire is vibrating the snot out of the piezo element in the KS.

What is going on? Why do I keep loosing injectors? At $100/ea, this is an expensive habit. I'm stumped... thoughts???

I am thankful that it is on the front bank...and not the rear by the firewall!

Flame Away!

Hail Purdue!

Its very unlikely for it to go bad agian especially since u put in brand new ones. If your check engine light came on then I would suspect bad coils. Look in the FAQs for more info. My injectors are bad and am awaiting new ones in the mail but the check engine light never came on. It misfires time to time without a code. So get a ohm reader and check the coils first.

actually, i checked the resistance of the coil in the injector. the coil resistance on #4 & #6 were around 12.6 ohm. the coil resistance on #2 (the dead cylinder) is Infinite/Open...same problem as i had the last two time...

perhaps whatever is (electrically) upstream of the injector is sending a current/voltage spike that is frying the FI coil.

the reason the CE light came on was that there was no detonation in the cylinder (i.e. misfire). with the injector coil an "open", there is now mag field to pull back the valve the allows the gas to travel from the fuel rail to the spray nozzle in the head.

i'm gonna have summit send me a replacement one since the venom's have a 1 yr warranty.

if you have any ideas what would cause this please let me know!

btw, how did you know your injectors were bad?

I have had a problem since I got this car 4 months ago of it misfiriing once in a while. Especially after restarting the car when the engine is warm. Black soot, and bad gas mileage is indicating to me that the fuel injectors are either clogged up or stick open or both. I checked the coils and they are all fine. I checked the injectors and all of them are giving me an infinite resistance. I just received my brand new ones and they are also giving me 0 so I suspect that they are fine electronically but stick open or what not. I dont know which ones are bad so I am replacing the back 3 set first. If the problem doesnt go away then Ill buy used ones and test out the front 3.
In your case, maybe you just had a bad injector which came defective from the factory. Good thing they have a warranty on it.

still can't figure out why the coils are getting fried

Argh!!!!

UGH!!!! IT HAPPENED AGAIN!!!

another FI dead! same one!!! I'm so confused. Luckily, the FI is still under warranty.

What is directly "upstream" (electrically speaking) of the FI? Something is frying these injectors!!!

Coherent help appreciated!!!!

Where do you get Hitachi FI's?

My stock FI's also went bad...

The coil resistance is showing an open, which would make me think that the FI is getting a large voltage spike (or current) and shorting across the insulation of the coil wires...

dunno...

any one got a nissan mechanic for a buddy??
