Has anyone ever had it done on their wheels?
What did it cost?
Any recommendations in the So. Cal area?
I'm looking to powdercoat 90-96 300ZX wheels.

Ive checked out powdercoating as well... i was quoted 300 for all 4 as well.... this was in Michigan however. out west (cali for instance) its a much more common prospect and can be done for about 150 for 4 i've heard.

Powder coatings are epoxy or urethane based products that are environmentally safe. The product uses no thinners or toxic mixtures. By spraying the colored powder then bake it at high temperatures This makes a shell coating that resists chipping and cracking

Advantages:

Coating will not chip or crack as in painted coatings.

Has a deep luster that compares to or exceeds the best clear coat base coat paint without the high cost.

Can be used on any part that can withstand our baking temperatures

Salt water resistant

Durability — Powder coatings are extremely durable, and various types are formulated to endure the severities of chemicals, abrasion and chipping, or ultraviolet radiation from sunlight.

Finish variety — The latest paint technology has resulted in texture, wrinkle, hammer-tone as well as smooth film powder coatings in any level of gloss.

Color variety — Powder coatings are available in a wide array of colors, and can be specially matched on request from any place that does this service.

Higher quality — Before baking, parts painted with liquid paint have a strong tendency to attract dust particles that mar the final finish. Because powder coatings are dry before baking, they attract virtually no dust, leading to a better quality finish.

Typical Things Powdercoated:

Wheels, rotors, rims, grilles, brackets, blocks, motorcycle frames, car frames, covers, boat hardware, sailboat masts, boat exhaust manifolds, r/v, off road vehicles, jet skis, snowmobiles, outdoor funiture, railings, trade shows, lamposts, pumps, fittings

SportsMax....Could this process duplicate the original finish? I had NTB booger up a wheel of mine last year and they sent it to a shop to be repainted. The repair job wasn't that good so I made them replace the wheel. Was wondering if there was a way to get that factory finish and one that was durable without painting it. I've seen the powdercoat process used on smaller parts, but not on wheels.

yes you can powder coat wheels if you want.. its much better than paint because its a dry baking process and it doesn't chip
