Exhaust Pipe and Suspension Prob

Hi,

My front exhaust pipe is rusted and leaking, producing an irritating noice.

A mechanic is charging about 400 to replace it with a new one (Parts: $362; labor $45). Is this reasonable for a Speedy's muffler ?

Although I would want to keep my vintage max, I'm not sure if I should be putting such a new part in at this time.

Would you advice a used exhaust pipe from....from wreckers, particularly if I may end up keeping the car for just another year?

Secondly, I noticed that while in low rmps (up to 1500) my steering wheel jerks quickly, from left to right, as if the wheels are wobbling... any ideas, what might be wrong.

I live in MD...

thanks for all your advice

You can buy a performance front exhaust pipe (called a y-pipe around here) for $200 from Warpspeed performance. It is great quality, and best of all it'll free up some horsepower for you. You can get an OEM replacement for ~$170, but why not spend the extra $30 and add 10 ponies to your car?

I had the same dilema... $400 for a stock y-pipe? I decided to go through WarpSpeedPerformance (wsp) and got a 2-1/2" mandrel bent custom exhaust from the y to the the muffler for $650 (complete). It was well worth it, it took me about two hours to remove everything and bolt up the exhaust (cutting wheel and air tools highly recommend)! The muffler I got looks just as good as the stock twin outlet muffler (genrally on SE's), other than the fact that the whole body of the muffler is "chromed" finished. I do, however, recommend going with a quieter muffler though. Dallas at warp speed knows what he is talking about. And to let you know: my Max has 155K on it, and it has never run so strong. My max just needs a CAI, suspension, wheels, tires, spoiler, paint and a few hot chicks...

Good luck!
