a noob question.. not really related to audio, but electrical otherwise

Yesterday I did the "Illuminating your clock bright at all times" mod for my 99 maxima. I simply cut the red wire with the blue tracer. The clock did stay on bright, but the lights to my climate control were gone (fan buttons, auto, econ, off, amb, blue and red arrow, etc.) The display itself works fine. I connected the two wires back together and thought the climate control lights would come back on but no i was wrong. Is this a fuse? wire loose? any ideas? I'm not the most electrically knowledgable person, so any feedback is appreciated thank you.
