i hate my y-pipe

well i don't hate my y-pipe i just hate the installation. i got my pipe in the mail this morning so i ran to sears today just to buy a $5 14mm deep socket and a $10 angle thingy for my ratchet. well it takes some time but i finally get the 6 nuts up front off and i just have the 2 that go to the converter, well i get one off and the last one is stuck like a mothe****er and i ****ing strip it so im gonna have to take it to my shop tomorow morning and have them torch it off or something. my question is will it be allright to drive like 3 blocks with just the one bolt on there or should i bolt up a couple more? i started it up and moved it like 5 feet and it was loud as hell but it didn't fall off so i thought id be allright to drive it but i dunno. man i was so pumped to get it on tonight but oh well. oh yeah and if i take it to the shop and they get the last bolt off am i going to have to have them put the new pipe on or is there a way i could drive without a y back home to put it on myself? i dunno

They make these things that look like normal sockets. They are made in such a way so you can remove stripped bolts. I bought them at Home Depot and have used them 2 times. They really do work great. But if its rusted to hell, maybe torch it yourself?
As for driving it with one bolt... What would happen if the damn thing snaped or something. You could cause an acident. Just put the rest on but dont over tighten them. This may sound stupid but if you use Vaseline (spelling??), it wont let the treds get rusted but at the same time they wont loosen by themselfs.

I've never done this myself, but this may work, assuming all the bolts are the same size:

after the one is stripped, you got five more bolts, at least put back the five bolts when you leave tomorrow, ask to have the stripped one removed, and then return home with the car and five bolts still in there. then remove the five remaining bolts and you've got the pipe off. which y pipe did you get by the way?

I stripped mine and my Crapsman bolt out kit did not work either. I had to torch the head of the bolt off, and then use vice grips to screw the stud out!

fishpony give it a couple of days. The y-pipe needs to be exercised into the car for a while. The noise level will decrease over a period of time. Give it some time...

i did mine last night with no problems. I even used the stock crush rings cuz WS never sent me any. I knew there was no way to losen the cat bolts so I broke them clean off. I replaced my cat too so the old bolts stayed in the old cat leaving the 's'/'b' pipe ready for new bolts. Trying to get the old bolts out of the cat would bite hard. It was fun and I enjoyed laying under the car for almost 2 hours. I like the new sound too.

I don't remember if there is a space to stick a hacksaw in there, but the way you can get exhaust pieces off is to cut the bolt and watch it pop out like ****. Hacksaw is your friend when working with exhaust and suspesion parts.
