knock sensor re-location

knock sensor re-location

i have the knock sensor located at the timing chain cover, but the chain ratteles(cam shaft tensioner problem) wouldn't that affect its operation? since knock sensor senses knocks?

why is your KS relocated? leave it where it first was. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

i have nismo14 KS relocation spot #1, and i am getting an average of 23mpg with 50/50 hwy/local driving with medium foot. g-tech dyno 173WHP with my current mods and some weight deduction. total of 10 runs, +- 3WHP difference between each run, condition included drag lost.

so i say it works. and i have not encounter any problem in the last 6 months with his location.

first: i think my knock sensor is bad 0304 code, 9 years old car, i think it is dead, so i bought another one
second: my chain rattles( cam shaft tensioners problem) and knock sensor is placed on the timing cover(it was always in this location)-where the rattling sound is coming from

since this sensor senses knocks, it will probably get cofused with the other sounds coming from chain(rattling) so that is why i am considering relocating the new knock sensor

what do u think? where should i get my mechanic place the new sensor?

why go to all this trouble?!? Just set aside some time and take the plenum off. Then you can clean off all that nasty oily residue from the lower manifold and the egr tube. Its not too hard, just be sure not to remove the lower bolts on the 2 plenum support brackets. They are a major pain in the **** to get back. It takes me about 2 hours tops. And thats with replacing the fuel rail also. Good luck.
