Need HELP! My 99 Maxima is hesitating

Fellow forum members,

I hope someone can assist or maybe had the same problem...

I had my tranny replaced about 6K miles ago at the dealership. About 2K miles ago the car started to hesitate at stop lights. What happens is: I press gas and the rpm's don't go up and sometimes drop a bit and after a few seconds the car starts driving and no more problems. This does not happened all of the time. I don't think it's the tranny because it does it, though not as bad in Neutral. The problem is only observed when the car is fully stopped.

Any suggestions? A friend thinks it's my 2001 Maxima exhaust because there's a rock in there?!?

Thanks in advance,

Rusty.

Is the car misfiring to cause this hesitation? If so it may be the ignition coils.

Otherwise, it would probably be the MAF sensor thats acting up.

Like I said, this only happens when the car is stopped and starts going.

How would I go about diagnosing the misfiring and ingnition coils?

Thanks,

Rusty.

I don't know exactly, but it is in the How-to's at the top of the page.
They tell you how to test for a bad coil.
You can start there and see how it goes.
Check your codes from your ECU too, to see if it threw any codes.

I definately think it's the MAF sensor. It's still working, but the signals aren't correct or the response is slow.

The ECU still see's it working, but it's not really working correctly.

You should also check the TPS for proper operation.

A Haynes shop manual would help you quite a bit.

I'll try the MAF sensor, that sounds like it may be the source... Where can I get one cheap?

I would say it is the MAF sensor. Try www.car-part.com. You can change it yourself.
