I installed my Stillen x-drilled today with axxis metalmaster pads...when braking from 35-0...35-15 is fine and then 15-0 it sounds rough and when i hit 0 it gets real loud...should this be normal throughout the break in period and then eventually subside? if not how should i troubleshoot...thanks...

it's probably a howl or a grinding noise..right?
that's pretty normal w/ X-drilled rotors. they do get a little quiter after break in..you'll get used to it.

one idea chris.. when i had first got my brakes done, i was told not to brake hard for the 1st some odd amount of miles.. the number slips my mind, but after the specific miles my brakes were working fine.. good to see your lazy butt is finally working on your car again

i just put in my stillen slotted rotors this weekend and i got the same grinding sound too. sometimes when i accelerate, i can hear a high pitch grinding noise, sounded just like there was a brake pad rubbing against a rotor that had a slot in it.

did you have the same "extra" pieces after swapping the pads out? i am referring to the wire springs that fit into the brade pads at the top (little holes). my stillen metal matrix pads didnt have the little hole, so i left them out.....

btw, the grinding sound went away after a afternoon of driving. i think the rotor surface and the pads have to be smoothed out to each other; say bye-bye to the nice golden finish....

those "wire springs" are to keep the pad from touching the brake while you are on the fly, why would they not add the hole for the spring to go in.

my 2 cents

Can I inquire as to how much you paid for the rotors, and if you think they were worth the money. My car is only a '99 so I don't really need to do major brake work yet, but I thought about getting new rotors since I'll be changing the pads this summer. Cross drilled rotors would be nice to have for the looks and the extra braking, but the only brake upgrade I've felt is Loren's Skyline brakes
