Brake rebuild
Brake rebuild
When I get my new set of rotors and pads I want to paint my calipers as well. Since I live in Canada we use a LOT of salt and my calipers are covered in rust, I tried to sand it off using a roto tool and burnt for sanding drums and its still not suitable to paint. The guy at the local autoparts store suggested "Navy Jelly" it supposedly dissolve rust.
My though being when I did my brakes I would remove the calipers completely and disassemble treat them and then, paint then reassemble them. I assume this jelly would eat plastic and rubber so what items would I need to rebuild my brakes once I remove all the rust and whatnot.
Or could I get away with only putting the jelly on the outer surfaces and avoid the piston area all together.
Opinions anyone?

Naval jelly isnt that great, when i heard about that stuff i thought it was like magic. but when i used it... it didnt work all that great. i dont think its corrosive to plastics or rubbers... just read the label on the bottle. and you'll know what to do.
Wow. I just got some 2000*F engine paint and went to work. No sanding, no nothing and the paint stuck to it. Put on 2 or 3 coats and it went on pretty well. We have some bad winters here in Chicago as well.
