ARGHHHH...Blew another MAF, thinking about changing intake

For the second time in less than a year, my MAF went. I was driving on an open stretch of road with no one around and decided to stomp on the gas....RPM's went up and the car died.

Fortunately my dealer will replace it again under warranty. Nissan stipulates that I have to buy a $15 air filter which I'll give to my neighbor.

The master mechanic told me he has seen good luck with the Injen CAI and has never seen a blown "Air Flow Meter" with one. Unlike my experiences so far with FrankenCar.

I told him I would be concerned about water getting up there. Any thoughts?

So you went to the dealer with your intake on?

BTW, I say go with Injen if it doesn't hurt the MAF, but then again you can suck water travel through 1 foot of water but with the FC you can't!

Or get the 2k1 MAF. Stronger and for only $90, you won't blow a MAF anymore like 2k2whitemaxi said.

Good Idea....I'll do that...Can I buy the 2K1 MAF from the dealer for that price? What else will I need to do to my car to make the new MAF work properly? Mechanically challenged here....I need a diagram for changing light bulbs

Of course, the Master Mechanic at the dealer does work on the side (same work, real cheap) so perhaps he'll understand.

Yes, I brought my car into the dealer with the intake on for the second time. They are very good people to deal with. They laugh any time someone comes in with a blown MAF and tries to put the factory stuff back on. It's pretty easy to tell that it's been screwed with. Then you have to lie to their faces when they ask if you had another intake on it.

Steve, the owner of FrankenCar, who also lives near me, has done this a few times with the same dealer and he has a bad rep with the service folks. Funny, they probably would have worked with him if he hadn't lied every time. But now they just suggest Injen anytime someone asks about an intake.

I must point out, Steve is just working the system. The root cause of the fault here, is Nissan and their(some) service center.

It's a flawed engineered and designed MAF. What do they do, when it blows, say the intake/ anything else (kitchen sink) is at fault, instead of owning up and repairing it like they are supposed to.

Nissan is the source of the problem, Steve and other members who replace their intake when the ****tily designed MAF blows are just doing what is needed to get the service center to accept the responsibility that is rightfully theirs.

Saying Injen is better without factual data is pure crap. All members here know that Injen owners have had blown MAF's also.

This is not an attack on you, just straigthening the facts. No, I'm not affiliated or friends with Steve.

aka. Mr Tired of Nissan's ****.

I agree with all you've said...I've just been able to get good service results with honesty (and buying pizza for the guys every now and then).

BTW, Steve called me the other day and left a message about his catback. I might be interested except it's so heavy compared to the Greddy or Cattman. Another "old" topic for another time.

I'm definitely up for the 2K1 MAF idea. For $90 a pop I can live with my intake.

If I were you, I'd reinstall the "bellow" aka accordian section(if possible with midpipe) and try and put a rubber mount on that support bracket.

Since you have an Apexi dry filter(?)...my bet is the vibration is killing it.

Good luck with the 2K MAF though, hopefully that solves it, but if not, you might try my suggestion.

2K1 upgraded MAF part number??

Speaking of the MAF, what is the Nissan Part number for the 2K1 upgraded version. I recently have been having problems with my SES light coming on ever since I replaced my stock intake with the CAI Injen. I've heard that it could be the MAF.

I've been running with the Berk intake for almost 2 years and added the Mid-Pipe this spring and it's rock solid no blown maf so far.

Cheers

Midpipe is the FrankenCar intake that goes between the MAF and the throttle body. The stock intake is the accordion style intake. 22680-AD210 is the part # of the 01 MAF, I am on my 5th MAF now with 2 spares handy This new one I have has been good for the last year so I might finally have the good shi.t in my car.

What air filter do you have with your FC intake. I've heard of a lot of people blowing theirs with the moster flow filters.

It's the piece from the stock intake that connected to the throttle-body....kind of looks like an accordian, ie flexible/bendy piece.

It might not fit with the FC midpipe, but you can always trim the midpipe.

if you want a good intake buy place racing CAI and just don't drive through a 2 foot puddle over 40 mph and u'll be fine ...in case u feel like doing that however just buy a bypass valve for $30 and you never have to worry about it
