I just picked up a 95 Maxima SE 5-Speed, VQ30DE Swap Question

Guys,

I just picked up a 1995 Maxima SE 5-Speed. Leather, Moonroof, Cold Weather Package, Auto Climate, etc. Pretty much fully loaded. It's Pebble Beige Metallic with tan interior. It should be delivered in the next week or so. It has 121k miles on it, and included all of the service records. It's CLEAN!

I have access to a 2001 Maxima VQ30DE engine. Is this a bolt in deal? I have not checked the service manual of a 95 to a 2001 to see if the sensor configuration is the same on the engine. Wasn't the power output higher in the 5th gen? I can get it for dirtt cheap and with 100k less miles, it might be something worth picking up just to have on the side for a rainy day. I thought maybe down the road after the summer I could drop in a new engine, OEM Nissan clutch setup and a rebuilt 5-Speed, half shafts and rebuild the front suspension just for the piece of mind not having to worry about transmission bearing problems, engine wear, etc.

Sorry, I don't have access to the forum search function and donations are not being accepted. There are just too many posts to sift through here, if the answer has always been told.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks!
David

Read the "Stickies" at the top of this forum. There are many answers to your questions there.

Good luck.

Thanks. I've found a lot of the answers to my questions prior to buying a Maxima. However I couldn't find anything specific to changes in the VQ30DE from 1995 to 2001. I'm hoping I have not over looked it. There is a lot to read on this forum!

If I'm not mistaken what they did was change just the intake, not the engine. ECU's are different. The transmission is a bolt on, the only difference being one of the axles and speed sensors... The engine on the other hand is not a direct bolt on and will probably require extensive electrical modification.
