looking to upgrade the max from a 97

I found a 2001 max SE 5 spd for 16100 in my area with 57k.
I was wondering if that is a good price also what should I look for as far as flaws the dealer tries not to fix if they don't have to. And is the 2001 a good year for the 5th gen as far as mods and stuff like that( I am comparing the 4th gen 95-96 to the 97-99 they are different in some parts.)
Thanks.

Way too expensive- car like that in Chicago would be a 10-12K dollars at the most- it would need to be decked out. 02-03 6spds go for around 14-17K bux here with lower miles. Pugi Hyundai had a 6spd for 14K bux 02 with 37K miles. If U wanna go Turbo or SC get a 00-01, if U want all bolt on power then the 3.5 is hard to beat. Skip the auto if you are serious about driving.

Thanks for the info I am going to the dealer and haggle with him first. I checked the blue book and for my area it says the dealer would probably start at 14K for this car. So the 3.5 starts in 02 I am thinking that is what you ment.

2k1 are better than 2k cause they have a lot of the TSB's fixed. If you do get a 2k1, aim for an AE model, it has a very nice body kit factory installed (meaning perfect paint match!). If it boils down to an auto, then skip the 3.0.

BTW, I think the 3.5 is coming out with a lot of parts so it still hasn't been totally exploited in power. But for me, my 5 speed 3.0 is good enough
