How do you TINT Maxima taillights?

i have a 2000 maxima gle and i have the all red taillights. I want to tint the whole taillight. Not just make it look like the SE lights. So basically i want to darken it. I've seen one maxima that had the tinted taillights but I forgot the link. If anyone can provide me with instructions on how to do it, that'll be great. Thanks in advance.

try in the "how to" section...but they make an actual spray product out there specifically for doing this...do a google search...you may have to bake your lights apart :-\

Even guys who have taken apart their headlights to clear them say the rears are a biotch to take apart. What you could do is buy some 00-01 SEs off ebay or someone here then use a smoke clear sprayed from the inside.

You can dremel open the tail lights but looks very messy. Don't do it. Your best bet would be to buy a can of transparent black spray from local hobby store and spray few coats along w/ few coats of clearcoat.

there is no way you can open your tail light it will brake..
the answer to your question is NITE SHADES.. is a tinting spray... i've had alot of freinds use it and it works perfect

4 or 5 light coats and its perfect tint.. and for gloss just go to your local hobby shop and get some clear coat... 4 ot 5 medium coats and get nice gloss

the answer is nite shades. I made my gle look similar to se lights, but better.

Get a can on ebay for $11.

removing the taillights can be tricky because the black adhesive stuff sticks onto the car pretty well. After taking it out..spray about 2-3 light coats onto designated area. Don't spray too heavy of a coat if you want the light to shine through. Apply 1 light coat of clearcoat(get it from autozone or something). let it dry for couple hours.

Note: "blacking out entire taillight will cause in undesired operation." ...by a cop that is.

this is the link to fish's taillight mod....very well written.

GOODLUCK!

---------------------------------------------

I would advice on reading the link i posted earlier step by step.

clean the top of the lens very well first. Spray very evenly light coats of nite shades. 1 coat, let it dry for like 35min-1 hr. This stuff is really liquidy so do light coats or ur gonna get running marks of liquid. finish after each coat, see if its dark enough for you...then put clear coat

Just spray the outside of the light with the niteshades spray.

Apply as many coats as you want but watch how dark it'll get.

I did this to mine at first.
I had the all Red tails. I then bought the NiteShades spray.
We used painter's tape to cover up the Brake, Reverse, & Turn lights.
Use an exacto knife to cut the tape perfect.
Then apply like 2-3 coats of tint. Then spray clearcoat.
They came out ok. I did mine in the cold weather so they didn't dry correctly and ran.
In March, I spray painted them black and I think they look great the way they are now.

You can kinda see them here
