OK check this out, I was looking at the back of my old GLE speedo cluster that I took out a few months ago, and I noticed that some of the bulbs that are supposed to be there are missing. I think it's becuase the US spec maxima has different speedo lights than the Jap spec one. Anyway if you look at these pics that I have you can see that there is a set of lights that can fit straight down the middle for P R N D 2 1,the gear indicator in the middle of the speedo cluster. thers also a another set of lights missing ( the rectangle with the three holes in it. ) those go from the plug in the back to right underneath the tach, if you notice the arrow it's pointing to the word "sport" that's written on that part of the circuit. Does anyone have any idea waht the "sport" lights are for? also is there anyway to get the lights for the PRND12 working on our US maximas? If you notice the circuit in the picture I've pointed out some spots on the circuit that have resistor symbols (which are not there) so I don't know if this is possible or not. If anyone can help me I'd appreciate it. (Sy I'm looking in your direction) I'd be willing to test it out since I've got this spare GLE cluster sitting around.

I tried this about 4 months ago...I put the bulbs in, and nothing happens.

I took my cluster out to change the bulbs also, and upon noticing the back where the "transmission" bulbs run down the middle...I just drilled holes there and wired LED's for different functions of the accessories I have in my car (i.e. fogs, amps, etc.)

Any details of how you wired them? seems like a hefty project.

Nope. It's relatively simple. Just go to Radio Shack and buy the small LED's (3/16 or smaller) and 1000 Ohm 1/4 resistoors for each LED. Drill 3/16 hole(s) into the black trim panel that covers the guages and feed the wires thru the openings behind the cluster. You must wire the resistors to the positive lead of the LED (anode) so that they do not burn out for whatever positive lead that you are connecting it to. What I did was wire all the LED's negatives together, so that I would have one wire to hook up ground to power them all....makes it easier for not having all that wire dangling all over the place. Label all wires for whatever source that you're going to use. I used different colors for different sources. Try not to buy the LED's that give off a high "luminscent" value (brightness), they tend to stand out more...way too bright.

When I had mine apart, I also noticed the P,N,D... lights. When I was isntalling my intelliglows, I had the face off the tach, and when looking from behind, there was some lettering on the tach that I had never seen lit. I never though twice about it, but I guess it would make sense that it could be lit up by those lights you said were missing...
