2nd Generation VS 3rd Generation

I haven't had my Maxima that long and I don't know that much about it.

I really like it, but I think there is some problems with it. I think it should be faster then what it is. my brother has a 87 and i have a 89 and we raced (on a non public road) and he kicked my A$$, both are completely stock with automatics. Is this normal, or do I have problems? it starts right up and sounds pretty good just a little miss sometimes, and the exhaust smells a little gassy. could this be a bad injector? Oh yeah both have empty cats.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

anyways,
i wouldn't think a 2nd gen vs. a 3rd gen would result in a 3rd gen loss.
maybe a 2nd gen is much lighter than a 3rd gen??? no .....

I had an 87 auto and when you took off the OD in high speeds it was fun as hell, but god what a POS compared to my 92 VE. Anywayz I really can't tell you since most of the VG's I've driven have been crap.

It is simple, you need a VE. You and your brother both have the same engines.

DA-MAX is right, that is no race it is like watching two old people run a marathon.

I had an '88 Maxima (apparently a GL, which was like a GXE) and I now have a '92 GXE. My seat of the pants feeling was truly that the '88 was faster than the '92. Both were automatics. Horsepower wise there was not that much difference - 153 to 160 or something like that. Torque wise the 3rd gen had way more torque than the 2nd gen because of the variable intake. Both cars had roughly the same km's when I got them (around 160000). I think it might be that the transmissions in the 3rd gen are such crap. Maybe the 2nd gen tranny was more robust (I think so) and had different gearing?

really guys think about it. if your worried about why your VG auto is slow its because there all SLOW. if you want it to be fast rip out the auto tranny and bolt on a 5spd then rig up a turbo and you wont have any problems with an 87 auto haha.

or sell that hunk of ****t and get a real car. VE 5spd

I got my max a little bit quicker.
I got rid of my air box, advanced the timing and found a vacuum leak, But I still think my brother's is faster.

tomorrow I'm going to the junk yard and see if i can find a 5 speed parts car and hope for a ve. but I probably won't find anything.
