Cold Start Idle Problem

When I cold start my car, the idle speed is lower than the speed when it's warmed up. Cold start idle speed should be faster than normal, but mine is lower. The colder it is outside, the slower and rougher the idle. Since it's summer now, the idle is slightly below normal. When stopped at a light, before the engine is warm, the idle is rough as well. In the winter, this problem is obviously much worse, with idle speed being maybe 300-400. It feels like the car barely can even stay running. After driving, the car will warm up as usual, though.

The car will idle slightly high--around 1000--after it's been warmed up and then sitting for a few hours, so the engine is warm, but not operating temp. I don't feel like this is a particularly serious problem, the car's been doing it since I got it 3 years ago. Nevertheless I would like to fix this problem.

Thx
P.S. My normal idle after the car's warmed up is ~750-800rpm.

Your AAV valve is probably bad. I'd try doing the fix in the stick, or replacing it.

could this valve cause the car to bog down when you step on the gas to move

for instance
your in drive at a stop light it turns green you go to go and its bogs way down and then goes

I had this exact same problem just a mere few days ago. So yes, along with what Sarin said, try doing the repair of the Air Regulator located in the sticky. I did that and it solved my cold idle problem and also solved my 500RPM drop when turning on my AC.

Ok, I'll give it a try.

BTW,maxse, your quick (and worthwhile) responses have spoiled us on this forum. Keep it up, or we'll all have to buy 4th gens to get fast replies.

Niku, my car occasionally does that too, sometimes worse than others.
Zellix, sounds like the same prob.
I'll you guys know how it went as soon as I get around to fixing it. Time is scarce now that I actually have a job (GASP!).

Niku, is the bogging when the motor is cold or hot? It's possible when cold, but I'm not completely sure...it really depends when it's happening I suppose.

Very possible that that's the problem. Guess you'll have to see when you replace it. (Along with your heads).

Why are they pulling the motor? almost sounds like they are rebuilding the whole thing.
