What would you change in your 4th gen?
I would make all of the base models have 16" SE rims and all of the SE models would have the if not the new 17" rims, some other cool 17 inchers.
Anyone else have some ideas?? Better paint?

Auto up and down windows for all four positions, getting rid of that cheap plastic around the ACC and clock, moving the speakers from the parcel shelf to the rear doors, a fold down back seat, a full size spare and a better shifting auto tranny. It's not very smooth or very quick.
Headlights are terrible. Also, if I can't have a 5-spd I want the auto to have a manual shift option like Acura's. Base models had alloys in 3rd gen, why not 4th? Fugly steering wheel, but that's opinion.

Besides everything else, how about some seats with more support.
Besides everything else, how about some seats with more support.
-More supportive seats
-Fold-down rear seat
-Telescoping steering wheel (I've never been able to get completely comfortable)
-Those trunk hinges that don't encroach on luggage space
-Decent headlights
-Real wood on GLE
-One-touch windows and sunroof w/remote closing and opening like VW/Audi
-Different butt
-MEMORY SEATS (My fiance is 5'3")

I want everything you've all mentioned
And I hate the placement of the emergency brake. I lean my leg against the center console, and it's hard to find a nice place to put rest without having the end of the e-brake jabbing me. I don't like having to think about where I place my leg; I want a place I can naturally let it sit. Now I have this perpetual sore spot on the side of my right thigh, right near the knee...

Were do I start? Needs comfortable seats. For the cost of a GLE, with leather, I should get more leather - way too much vinyl trim. Bose system is OK, but I have heard better - too boomy, not enough fidelity (no mute or pause buttons on it either). Could use volume controls on steering wheel like my previous Mitsu Diamante. Headlights should automatically turn off when turning off the ignition and exiting the car. Could use some automatic "on" headlights as well. A "one-touch" sunroof would be convenient, even if its only one-touch opening. Suspension definitely needs improvement, sometimes it feels like I am running on my rims or a flat. Auto tranny needs work as well, way too jerky, not smooth at all. Overall integrity of the vehicle could be more solid - could use some more weight to it to make more stable at higher speeds. Just my opinion.
I would definately like a smoother shifting auto like in the 3rd gen. It would have independent suspension like in the 3rd, Tighter inside like the 3rd that doesnt rattle as much. The earlier 95-96 front end and rear would not have been made the 97-99 style would have been it and finally all would ahve come with alloys like the 3rd. Despite all of this I still like my 97SE better than my 01SE and my previous 93SE.

Does anybody else think the steering wheel is placed wrong? I've probably driven 50 different cars in the last year or so, and mine is the only one where I can't find a good relationship between seat and steering wheel. My shoulders always get tired on long trips. Maybe I just have really short arms.

I agree BIGGER BREAKS...
Better Lights
Rear windows that go all the way down..
Heated Steering wheel option ( NYer that hates the cold)
Headlight washer like the audi A4 ( agin for the snow and salt build up)
I even thought about how to incorporate them into the bumber. but too much $$$
A REAR Windsheld wiper....I really miss that from my Acura.

Yeah, I think I've been spending too much time in my Continental. I like my Maxima better in almost every way, but there are a few things I would change. And I would love an Audi A6, but that will have to wait.

I believe the perfect seating positions is impossible to find in my '95 GLE. Even with 8-way power seats, always feels like my shoulders are angled downwards from the rest of my body and not fully parallel
How about a little C&C

Some interior lights on the back doors would be nice.
Oh yeah, how about an oil pressure guage and a volt guage too.
And those Ford outside mirrors that have the LED turn arrows would be REALLY cool

Know that everyone else has hit the performance stuff already. I'd like bigger rims/tires. A OEM supercharger would be loverly

DON'T change a thing about the leather steering wheel in the SE. It's just about puuuuuuurrrrrrfect!
my biggest beefs:
-the seats look pretty, but have no support. I drove a '90 RX7 TurboII for a couple years, and the seats were almost harsh in their supportiveness. I'm 6'2" and 225 lbs, and those seats were almost too tight, but in hard corners, I didn't slide AT ALL! Damn that was nice.
-trunk rattles. dammit.
-steering wheel radio controls won't do sh*t for me since I have an aftermarket stereo.
-Make the car a couple inches longer so the back seat has more legroom!
-one-touch up for the window
-I hate the way rain rolls off the roof and thru my barely cracked window when I turn right. What a sh*tty design.
on the plus side:
-I don't have any problems with the 9004 headlights, I can see just fine at night.
-I love the light weight! I had my buddies looking at the weights of their cars... 99 CL 3.0: 4200lbs, 01 A4 Quattro: 4700lbs!!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!! They were amazed that the Max was only 3200. Suckers.
-Auto climate control is awesome.
-All that for 23,500 brand new ('99 SE-L leather/C&C/sunroof/etc...) Awesome.
Oh, BTW, some of you guys have mentioned that the A6 2.7TT has all the features we most crave from our Maximas, but remember, the Audi STARTS at 40K... add leather, premium stereo (BOSE), 17" rims, sport package, TT&L, and financing... BOOM! You got yourself a $55,000 car. I'll take the Max.

what i would change
Things i would change on my 4th gen
1.)AN INDEPENDANT REAR SUSPENSION! not so-called "multilink beam!" makes for imbalanced susp feel (rocky) and nervous rear tire traction (jumpy/queals during hard cornering)
2.)Shorter front end (distance from front bumper to front wheel looks kinda goofy. If you look at the car from the side, it looks like the front is disproportionately longer than back of car, longer bumper of 97-99's doesnt help)
3.)Smaller gap in fender well with lower looking "skirt" to make the car look sportier-meaner (less flattened/pancake shaped) looks like theres a lot of ground clearance!
4.)A more hi-tech engine (doesnt have to constantly downshift/upshift repeatedly to climb hills, engine revs and breathes )
5.) More torsional rigidity (so suspension/chassis can feel more confident, less flimsy)
6.)And finally, better ergonomics (Seats kill my back, distance to steering wheel too far for arms while distance to pedals too short...kinda awkward...make the ergonomics meaner, body hugging, make it fit like a glove not a family sedan)

- move the e-brake to the other side or center of the hump and away from my achin' knee
- narrow the instrument cluster/center console to provide more knee room
- to augment the telescoping steering wheel, the option to move the seat back even further (i'm 6'4" and have yet to figure out a comfortable driving position)
- enough real wood to extend all the way up to the clock (that cheapo black plastic is way too reminiscent of 80's econoboxes)
- OEM turbo
Say Kashoggio what kind of rims do you have on your max? They look sweet. Also what size are they and how much..
