Oh My Good God...My car is FAST Again!!!

Finally!!!!!!!! Sorry but I am so happy right now

After everything I posted i did the fuel cleaner, air filter cleaner, spark plugs, oil filter change, throttle body cleaning, then today i got the MAF and put it in and nothing really happened then I took out my bypass valve and just put a regular boot on and then reset the ECU and MY GOODNESS....when i reconnected battery and went out for a drive....MY CAR IS BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER....first off forget the bypass valve bc my intake is soooo much louder and throatier without it ....then that sluggishness i tried to explain was TOTALLY gone and it revs so smooth and fast now through the entire powerband...no lag at all anywhere ...it's like I have a new car. :-)

moral of story...u have same problem I had??? (SLOW car thread a page back)...get a new MAF and reset ECU

you may have had a leaky bypass.... Also, carbon buildup does not help either. The fact that you cleaned it helps a ton.

yea, i think the bypass valve seems kind of stupid. If you lived in an area that floods, why not just have a short stack regular intake, you know.

congrats on fixing the car up, enjoy it.

Did you have the bypass valve installed before or after the MAF? Only install it before the MAF.. Installing it after the MAF would result in the car running lean.

I think my MAF is on its way out, car does not move untill i hit 4000 to 5000 rpm, i just had an oil change done, and the mechanics did not tell me anything was wrong. but i have this gutt feeling the car is not running up to performance. I may reset the ECU then see if it continues to be slow, how do i clean the bypass valve, i have a stock air box and stock filter.

sounds like the problem i had....get the maf, reset the ecu, and hope for the best...i'd bet that's the problem but don't hold me to it...i'm partial towards the MAF now bc it made my car come to life better than ever. :-)

yah i can already tell the gas mielage is doing better...mine was real bad but i also haul everywhere haha....anyways...bypass valve is not stock, i put it in with my cool air intake to prevent hydrolocking the engine if driving through a very large puddle way too fast...i think you mean to say throttle body and you can do this by removing the throttle body and cleaning it with carbon cleaner that costs like $3 at autozone or somehwere ...or you can be lazy like me and just disconnect the air box from the throttle body and just spray it in and wipe down with a rag...i got throttle body cleaner for like $1 at Autozone and it tells you how to use it on the back. hope this helps

If the MAF is not working properly should the check engine light come on? Also any way to check how well MAF is working using a voltemeter?

I would assume it's similar to the SE-R... the check engine light would not come on. My first indication that my MAF was bad was when the car was down 20-30 HP at a dyno day. It had been overheating at a track event the week before so I should've known. It was confirmed then with a consult. Then, after replacing the MAF with another, we confirmed that it was fixed. After replacing the MAF, I bounced my rev limiter in first it got up there so fast!

Its funny how I always tell ya guys its the MAFs that make the 00-01s feel slow. I am on my 5th MAF right now, and have 2 spares. Sold my 3rd spare to Stardust on the .org here cause his 00 ran like a stock 4th gen auto. 22680-AD210 is the new MAF, its not the whole assembly- just the sensor part itself- I dunno the list price on them, I get em for way bellow list.

the better way to reset your ecu is by going straight at it to the right of the driver's feet. there is a little flathead you turn one way and hold to reset. this also gives you codes you can cross reference to nissan to see what sensor is going off. the dealerships have a scanner called.... i dunno right now that diagnosis your problem or codes properly

Hey Mike, is the new sensor part a direct replacement for the MAF in an '00? BTW, thanks for all your help, my max is purring again, I'll shoot you a PM sometime to let you know the details.

Wrong. That worked for pre-5th gens. 5th gens dont have any screws there. There is a weird pedal-pushing procedure for 5.5+ gens to get the codes. I am sure you can find it somewhere...

Where can i order this part? and about how much? is it hard to replace?? i notice this sluggishness the same day my check engine light came on. thanks in advance for answering my noob questions.
also if i just disconnect my neg batt over night and plug it back in the morning will everything be ok? or should it be shorter? thanks.

Yeah I need to buy a new MAF too. I'm sure this will stop my cold start hesitations. How much $$?

OK heres my problem that started on Friday. I turned my car on it reved to 2000rpm then starts to bog out. Itried to rev it up but it would not go past 2500rpm. Could this prob possible be my MAF? I have a 2k1AE.

FYI, From the ESM:

FAIL-SAFE MODE
When the malfunction B is detected, the ECM enters fail-safe mode
and the MIL lights up.
Detected items Engine operating condition in fail-safe mode
Mass air flow sensor circuit Engine speed will not rise more than 2,400 rpm due to the fuel cut.

you need a MAF, you can't go more than about 15-20% throttle or the engine will bog. Also one more thing all of you are forgetting- the ECU needs to be recalibrated for the NEW updated MAF. I lost 10WHP accross the board on the dyno with the old program. I have the Consult printout with the correct ECU broadcast code for the program. Stardust- how is your car since the ECU reflash we did a week ago ???
