does anyone know the specs on this turboed automatic??
Hey everyone, well I'm new to the BOOSTED forum, so bear with me but I want to go boosted. And from I've heard from the beggining, is that your better off swaping your auto to 5spd and then boost it. Due to the fact that the automatic tranny cant hold up, as much as the 5spd tranny. Well I went the whole 5spd route, as you can see from this post:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....93#post3144693
Now, I saw this a couple of nights ago, I had computer problems so I didnt see the whole page until today. I assumed it was standard, until I upload and refreshed the page and saw that its a automatic boosted maxima.
http://www.evolution-autodesign.com/projects/maxima.htm
Now if this is possible, I would so rather go that route, than going thru the whole trouble of having to do a tranny swap, and waste ( extra money) on uncessary parts... So my question is does anyone know the specs to this car??
I would love to follow this route, I have the VBmod, my only worries is how long would it hold...??? If this would only last for a 1yr, then I'd rather go 5spd, also the parts listed on that page, If I can find all those parts, do I have a complete turbo setup??
T3/60-1 (T04S Housing 4" Inlet) Polished Turbocharger
Tial 38mm Wastegate
GReddy Type S Blow Off Valve
20"x8"x3" Spearco Air/Air Intercooler
Silver Powdercoated Intercooler Pipes
Ceramic coated feed and down pipes
Walboro Fuel Pump
Cartech FMU
SARD FPR
Custom 3" Mandrel Bent Exhaust
3" Test Pipe
Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield
GReddy e-Manage System (Timing, Fuel, and Ignition Computer)
100mm HKS Super Mega Flow Air Filter
I know you guys see questions like this daily, but if you guys can help, please post old threads that can answer these, any advice, and so on.. Thanks

What your looking for is someone to tell you your automatic transmission will hold up to the power output your trying to get and YOUR driving.
You never mentioned what PSI you wanted, that has tons to do with it.
My auto @ ~7psi on my turbo lasted ~6 months. I drove my car like I stole it and raced ALOT. I had a upgraded VB and a tranny cooler. Still blew it.
I now have a 5spd @ 7 psi and have had no problems. I drive less hard day to day, but race more. It's been 6+ months.
I gave you his name. Try looking up my name or bigdogjonx. And I know you can't use the search function, but this forum has most of the important info. So you can start hunting posts.
Ians is another one.
i will blow my tranny soon ive been racing daily at 6 to 7 psi since jannuary 04. no prob yet but i got an extra tranny on hand. i have a vb upgrade and a tranny cooler.
i say save the money on the swap and get a tranny from NRH. thats what im doing.

As the builder of Shadow's turbo setup, I can say the auto is holding up fine but we don't know how much longer it will last. The car has 104k on it and the tranny is original and it spent ~20k supercharged w/ a 3.33" pulley. It's made over 20 drag passes w/ the turbo and many more dyno runs w/o any slippage. I was commuting w/ it over the summer putting 300-400 miles a week on it and was averaging 24mpg hitting full boost every trip. There aren't any signs of slippage yet and the fluid stays fresh and unburned. We also don't launch the car hard b/c of the LSD which prevents tire spin enough to probably cause the tranny to fail sooner. BTW, old supercharger setup has a new home on another auto Maxima that's putting down over 330whp and seems to be holding up fine.
The auto isn't optimal for boosting sometimes b/c the computer has trouble figuring out what to do w/ all that torque. It kicks down gears as soon as you get on it (most likely to keep from blowing up) and sometimes results in bouncing off the rev limiter. If you already have an auto it doesn't cost any extra really to run it till it fails and then swap to a manual(that's our current plan). The biggest issue is the difference in turbo piping w/ the auto b/c of it's size compared to the manual transmission. Shadow's car was the 2nd turbo Max I built(the 1st was a 5spd) and it took 2-3x longer to route piping b/c of the larger turbo and clearing the auto. If you're fabbing it custom it'll only take a couple hours to reweld the pipes higher if and when you swap to a manual. It is slightly more of an issue if you buy a kit and have no welding capabilities. Either way a turbo isn't a true "bolt-on" so being prepared for some fabrication is a good idea.
Edit: The car's been running the turbo since last November but wasn't driving much until this spring after it was repainted so it's seen about 3k miles.

well thanks for all who answered... Man first I'm was all worked up about staying auto, but now that i read it might not last for long.... it kinda of blows,..but I understand.. Now as far as boost goes, I'm looking at staying under the 10PSI maybe like 6 or 7 psi, nothing crazy at least 300whp thats all.. So what should I do??? SC is a better resort for the automatic??? Well crap, I"m just turbo the dam thing, run the crap out of it... and then just swap the tranny...now where do I go about finding all the parts??? Sorry everyone I know you guys get these threads all the time... BUt I do want to get boosted, theres no one nearby to help me.... All other .org memebers that live around me arent interested at all about fixing up there cars. There all about looks....I'll keep researching thou...
Mishap can you pm, I would like to ask you some questions, about how you did the setup, and about getting a turbo kit from Evolution Autodesigns (i know your guys put that on hold) but maybe I can work somethign out...
