Replacement for trunk cover (aka spare tire lid)

Does anyone know if there is good replacement for this? Mine is all warped and now I sport a crater right in the middle of my truck This is really killing me since I can't put anything in my trunk straight.

I would like to go aftermarket since I know the stock one will warp again. Does anybody know where I could get one or make one?

Thanks!

i used mdf and built one that goes across the whole bottom. I think a 1/2" mdf works really well. Just measure and cut...

I was also going to replace mine whenever I had the chance since a crater is now forming. I was thinking of putting a hinge so I could just open up the middle part for access to the spare tire.

what is MDF?. I have a friend who owns a screen-printing shop. when i get some time, i'm going to get some "plastic-cardboard" and reinforce it with some small aluminum braces (to be custom made) the plastic-cardboard looks about like the same stuff that is covering the inside of your trunk-lid, but minus the spray-on carpeting, or whatever that stuff is...

Mine caved in when i put my system in the back. I then took the carpet out that covers the trunk floor, and used it as a template on a piece of 3/4" plywood... the piece of wood is one giant piece, and worked GREAT! however, i sold my system, and now i have the piece of plywood lying around... but there is always that extra weight factor too... my system and the plywood set the backend down pretty good... mostly the system.

It just depends on what kind of heavy stuff you're going to be sitting in your trunk (in the end). Whether it be a system, a bunch of groceries, or even your local dead corpse, you never have to worry about he 3/4 caving in... ;P

Here’s some more Home-Depot modding for you HDM Freaks

MDF is medium density fiberboard, known for its use in speakerboxes. comes in various thicknesses, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4 inch, etc.

Where do can you find MDF? Would Home Depot have these? Also, I don't have any place to work on anything like this. Let alone a recipricating saw. Does Home Depot or anywhere else cut a custom shape if you bring a template?

Also, I was wondering if there is plug-n-play solution for this.

Thanks guys!

Yes, Home Depot has MDF. No, they won't cut custom shapes. They only make straight cuts. Just buy a cordless/corded jig saw and you should be fine.

you could also use plexiglass or various other thin, strong sheet materials available at HD....jig saw is not very expensive....you can get a cheap-o one for like 20-30 bucks....or buy a handsaw (the type you use for cutting molding and wood trim) which will work too (it will take a long time though)...

I'm thinking of doing this myself, except instead of 1 huge piece, it'll be setup for easy access to the spare tire bay (hinged door cutout)....

after all, I have to keep my title as the home depot mod haha

dang 3/4 mdf is kinda heavy. i used 1/2 mdf and used that carpet cover in your trunk as a trace, cut out the shape. see if it fits. then cut that puppy in half and put hinges on it so you can get to your tire....if you have sounds like me. the cut it right where the sub box ends.

Yeah, except I'm gonna hinge it to open toward the rear of the car....I'll have to take a look at the best way to do it here eventually.

I just did the 1/2 mdf, about a month ago. Working well. I did not replace the original spare tire lid, This sits on top over the edges. I am considering cutting it to match but you can barely notice it.
