Observed gas mileage for a 2002 model?

I'm interested in getting a 2002 Maxima, but I see in some older reviews that it only gets 19/city 26/highway, but it shows the 2004's as getting 20/29, and I heared all the difference in the motor is was intake/exhaust.
so what do ya'll get?

My 6-speed says 21/28 on the sticker. I think the autos were 21/27 (don't quote me).
My mileage is 22-25 city and around 28-30 highway.
How on earth do you get mid-high 30's on the hwy BP2k2? Don't use the MPG counter on the trip computer b/c it's ALWAYS overestimating.
Calc it manually and see what you get.

ok, now I got a good idea that it'll be a lil better than my Grand Prix GT.
Can anyone tell me what the stock times are for an auto and a 6spd?
I get 15.3 at 91 in my GP and wanna make sure the auto is still quite a bit faster.

So, I noticed that there were a couple of you that reported 33+ highway. Are you guys going by the trip computer or real mpg calculations, since the trip computer is notoriously high? I think to make this thread a little more useful, everybody should be using real, calculated mpg (divide miles driven by gallons to fill up) to more accurately answer Newguy5's original question regarding observed actual results.

That being said, I usually see about 25 mpg on a 50/50 driving style mix, depending on driving conditions, using 93 octane fuel.

I agree, my trip computer has read as high as 37mph HWY...

good, that's about what I do, about 13 miles on straight highway then about the same in city. in city is where my gas mileage goes down, the sticker on my car said 18 city, which is prolly about right, but then again I have a heavy foot

do you have a 1/4mile time?

My drive is very similar to yours, about 30-35 miles each way, with a pretty even mix, although it may be closer to 60 city/40 hwy. If I try and keep my revs below 2500 for the full tank with no hard starts or excessive stop and go traffic, I will be in the 26's. On the other hand, if I do have a little fun with a few annoying Mustang guys off the line, I'll be down around 24. Hope that helps.

Mine is completely stock, auto, but I haven't taken mine to a track. I may go sometime, but I can tell you that reading several threads on the 1/4 mile forum, there have been "verified" (posts included scanned track slips) times of stock 5.5 gen autos running mid to high 14's, which still should be noticeably quicker than your Grand Prix. Of course, the manual 5.5 gens will be between .3-.5 seconds quicker than the autotragic.

If it were an old person driving it'ld probably get about 26 as well, but I can't seem to allow myself to take off slow. I was getting about 24.5 during the winter, but running the a/c knocks about 2 off, so I get about 22.5 as of right now.
I hope I am able to get a Maxima, gotta get rid of this grand prix 1st though. That may not be so easy considering I got 107,000 on it.

Manual does 0-60 in 6.0. Auto around low-mid 7's.

I have an 03 GLE and just returned from a roundtrip from New York City to Williamsburg/Virginia Beach. The entire trip was about 950 miles (95% highway and 5% local traffic). I used two tanks of gas (about 36 gallons), so I averaged about 26 miles per gallon). I had 3 adults and 2 children in the car (about 800 pounds) plus about 100 pounds of luggage and I had the AC turned on all the time. I am quite happy with the gas mileage, knowing that the powerful 255 hp VQ engine can outrun many cars on the highway.

If you only step into it when you need it (merging into traffic, pulling away from the lunatic fringe, etc.) you'd be surprised what you can get for mileage. I get between 26-29 mpg actual per tank, I reset the trip clock with each tank to gauge the amount of city/highway time I'm putting on and always get over 10 hours.

On my last trip through Oklahoma en route to Arkansas, while driving the flat stretches of hwy 69 I was able to get 32-34 mpg (indicated by computer) cruising at 75 MPH.

Calculated it at a fillup and calculated 29.6 MPG actual (based on gallons to fill), strangely enough my DTE counter reset to 588 when i restarted the car!!

Did someone just say that an auto 2002 will go to 60 in the mid 7's?

The auto will go in mid 6's, it can run as deep as mid 14's. How you ran 15.3@91 in your gpgt is beyond me if you're stock. Those are high 15 second cars. (What mods did you have? )
