Why cant we get gains like this?

Simply put... WOW.

46.9whp/~25wtq.

Here is the beginning. With an Injen CAI w/ bypass valve he makes 199.1whp/223-225wtq SAE

http://www.altimas.net/forum/showthr...hreadid=166587

He then adds a Greddy catback, the HS headers, and dyno tuning with a piggyback and makes 246.5whp/~248wtq SAE!! Note that without tuning he makes 232.4whp/214.3wtq although I beleive his torque is artificially low becuase on that dyno run it looks like WOT begins at 5k rpm. Still a 33whp gain with no tuning.

http://www.altimas.net/forum/showthr...hreadid=168236

I gained about 6whp/4wtq with my OBX catback which is nearly identical to Greddy's catback. Also the both of them together will give more gains than adding them seperately (CAI+catback and CAI+headers). Lets say them together gives 10% more gain than seperately so that would be 6whp for the catback and 24whp for the headers then add 10% to get 33. If I could gain 24whp with the headers I would be happy as hell! Then to add tuning and get another 13whp? Damn!!!

those are big time numbers. lot has to do with the hotshot headers i'm sure, seems those produce nice gains. they'd be my entry to the 13's

There have been similiar threads about this before. It seem smod for mod Altimas make more power and run faster times. Do you want to know why? Me too. So if you figure it out let me know!

60'- 2.140
330- 6.018
1.8- 9.211
mph- 77.76
1000- 11.976
1/4- 14.331
mph- 96.09

That is one hell of a 60' though. It makes a big difference on 1/4 ET. How big of a difference?
Well here is a qoute from a post I made over there.

"Its all about the launch period! Lol. On the same night I ran a 14.496@98.25 with a 2.303 60' and a 14.207@98.05 with a 2.196 60'. That is a 0.289 1/4ET difference with a 0.111 60' difference."

i think it has to do alot with the weight of the car..
altimas are lighter than maxes ...
and i think they use cheaper materials...

Reason they put out more HP is due to the tranny- 5spd is more efficient. I am gonna try go get the automatic that I converted to 6spd ( 2000 ) Maxima to go dyno, see how much of a diff it is compared to a 5spd Maxima.

For some reason I'm thinking that the Maxima Intake manifold and ECU are VERY different from the Altima's hence they can make more power easily.

yeah unfair as it is there isnt much maxima owners can do about the unresponsive gains aside from a drastic mod like FI. ive basically given up on engine modding anything short of headers, but then again that'll be about $600 which i dont have to spend. i appreciate the VQ35 for what it is stock and im going to just take it for what it is... lest i come across a large sum of money which i will then blow on new parts

its the same exact engine. vq35de fwd platform, no different intake manifolds and highly unlikely different ECUs

also as mentioned, gearing plays a factor to how much hp/tq you put down. Instead of looking at 1/4 times, look at the trap speeds. Thats the sign of true power. Then compare those trap speeds to maximas with similar mods.

sr20den puts down close to 250whp (forgot the tq amt) with HS headers, secret sauce IM, modified stock airbox, and stock b-pipe with hks muffler. I got bluyu2k2's numbers.

I posted a new thread about this. It is more specific about the "piggy back" unit the guy uses.

Dyno numbers are easily altered. You can change intake temps, outside air temps for example, and show massive horsepower gains

I think the 5-speed is better for the 4th mile.

SR20DEN has Cattman headers, and has a 6spd. This car is a automatic 4 speed Altima. It makes about the same power auto vs 6spd. 6spd is just as efficient as the automatic tranny. 5spd is more efficient, this is why some freak DE-K cars put out 199-200WHP stock, and 6spds put down 205-215WHP.
