Tiny leak in between test pipe and b-pipe

I have a Budget test pipe and a Budget b-pipe. The gasket in between them is the Nissan gasket which is of extremely high quality and excellent construction. However there seems to be a tiny leak on the underside of where the two pipes bolt up. The gasket is compressed as much as possible. It almost seems as if the two flanges are not properly lining up against the gasket. Is this possible or is it my gasket?

If I cannot figure out what the problem is, what are some ways that I can go about fixing this tiny exhaust leak?

Does anyone else have any tiny leaks or are all your exhausts perfectly sealed all the way through?

You need to buy the Cat Converter Mounting Assembly Bracket. Thats exactly what they called it when I ordered it. I had the same problem. Replace the gaskets while you're fixing it, also.

Are you referring to that U-shaped bracket that bolts to the front end of the cat (the end that the y-pipe goes)? If so, I do have that.

I might replace the gasket and see what happens but this gasket is pretty new itself and looked perfect.

Is there a possibility that the flanges aren't "flat" enough? Can I fill the gap with something else?

How did you find out about the exhaust leak if it's so small, is there something you did? I think I have a small leak too so I need to know how to check it.

I was told to check for an exhaust leak. Pull a spark plug and pour a teaspoon of ATF into the cylinder. It will smoke underneath the car if you have a leak.

I was wondering if you could use Sea Foam or something, I don't have any ATF.

Hmmm Seafoam, I was planning on feeding some seafom to my engine anyway, maybe if I do it from the brake booster hose I can check for the exaust leak also.

I have known for a little while, ever since I got my Budget b-pipe that I have a tiny leak. But this weekend I swapped my cat for a test pipe for the remainder of the summer at least, and I used new OEM Nissan gaskets (the nice 4-layered metal ones) and I still had a leak.

How did I find out? Simple - I started the car and crawled under it and felt around all the flanges - top and bottom. I felt a bit of warm air coming out from underneath the flange connection between the test pipe and b-pipe.

I am going to try to slip one of Budget's 2-layered paper gaskets between the Nissan gasket and b-pipe flange today and see if it solves the problem. If not, Jeff @ Budget has been quite gracious in his offer to look at it for me one evening.

Not a bad idea with the ATF. Do you already have the Seafoam? Cuz ATF sure is a lot easier to come by than Seafoam. Seafoam ought to work, though, from what I've heard about it.

Seafoam is a good way to find an exhaust leak.

I have NAPA store 5 min away, I'm pretty sure they carry it. I'll give it a shot, I was planning on doing it anyway.

O'Reillys Auto Parts sell it around here in east TN.

I've used it before but never really payed attention for an exhaust leak was more focused on getting the carbon out of the motor. Would I just feed it through the brake booster line like normal, or would I still have to pull a spark plug?

PROBLEM FIXED!!!

I replaced the Nissan gasket that was there with a new one and the leak was almost gone, but not all gone.

So I took the old gasket and put that in there as well... and with the 2 Nissan gaskets (basically 8 layers of thin metal gasket) the leak is GONE!

It is quite surprising, how much louder the exhaust gets just from a TINY leak.

Yes you can. Get a couple in case there still is a leak after using one. 2 will definetly fix the leak!
