HELP!! 4th Generation Maxima BOSE replacement?
HELP!! 4th Generation Maxima BOSE replacement?
guys, (and gals)--I need some help. I have driven my max for almost 6 years now and it has been great!! Lately I have been having some problems with the BOSE--it won't play any CD's...it keeps giving me the ERR message. I wasn't sure if the CD light is gone or if it is dirty (does anyone know how you can tell?)
If that is the case, I need some advice and help. Can I simply change the head unit which the BOSE plays out of? any suggestions? or would I need to change all the speakers as well. I wasn't sure if anyone has gone through one of these replacements (or would it be possible to get a CD changer and put it in the trunk and keep the original BOSE speakers?)
I am clueless so any suggestions you guys can offer would be great. And how much did it cost ya?
thanks a bunch.

stickies
can you be a little bit more specific? I was going over them and most of them were in regards to upgrades (performance) issues and I couldn't find anything on the BOSE replacement other than some sparse threads. I wish the search function was working.
Let me know if you can provide additional details, DA MAX.

I think he was referring to the car audio FAQ link..Found HERE Not the 4th gen ones, as they are more pertinent to performance.

It worked!
I am a testiment to the fix in the above post (dis-assemble, re-solder, re-assemble). GF's 95 Bose CD player kept saying CD Err, display was fading out, I followed the directions and now it works great. We'll see how long it keeps working, but so far, it went from broken to rockin'.
GF told me today she was at her wits end listening to the radio (spends most of her day in the car for work). I was about to make her some mix tapes to tide her over!

I say just replace the HU with an aftermarket and be done with it. Less aggravation than having to dismantle your radio and solder, and your SQ will be much better with an aftermarket deck.
